Videography or diy camcorder?

6-22-19 Mrs.williams, on September 28, 2017 at 9:37 AM Posted in Planning 0 73

I would really like to record our wedding but refuse to spend 1500 to 2000 just to do it. Any one else just set up camcorders and DIY? Any suggestions would be great Smiley smile

I was thinking about having a couple at different angles around the venue. I can have someone from the venue hit record for me. It was just an idea. I just can't see spending 2000 on a dj, 2000 on a photographer and another possible 2000 on a videographer.

I think it would be a hassle to DIY. Just hope a guest records it I guess?

If you "refuse" to spend $1,500 - $2,000 on quality work, then just forget it altogether. It sounds like you don't think it's worth it to have beautiful videography, and if that's the case and you don't value the work of a skilled videographer, skip it. "DIY" video recording won't do justice to your wedding day. If you want videography, skip other unnecessary items (skip save the dates, skip favors, limit decor, limit flowers, have sheet cakes instead of fancy cakes, etc.) and try to save up for it.

I think DIY would be difficult, If a guest captures it that would be great but trying to set up cameras all over and not knowing what exactly you are going to get on there seems like more of a pain. Glad you decided on getting a DJ though!! Definitely worth the $$$.

My BIL recorded the important parts of our wedding with his go pro. He offered, and I really wanted a video of our ceremony. I am really glad I did because I forgot to pause before heading down the stairs to the ceremony space and then rushed down the very short aisle with my dad (who met me at the bottom of the stairs), so I only have awkward pics of me coming down the stairs and no pics of me coming down the aisle with my father. I was very grateful for the video of my dad and me coming down the aisle.

If you want a video but don't want to spend the kind of money to get a professional one, I don't see anything wrong with setting up a tripod and recording it. If you can find a good spot for it that's not like, in the middle of the aisle lol. And someone is willing to press the buttons for you. It's not gonna be a great video but it's still a video nontheless.

I'm setting up a video camera for this same reason and having a trusted person hit record. I'm not looking for beauty in this -- that's what my photographer is for. I just want to have a recording of it. But I do videography for my work so I have access and know how to use the equipment to set it up like I want it for the big day!

We already arent doing save the dates,or favors. All we are having for decor r mason jars and a few string lights, flowers will be 100 bucks for all our bouquets and the men's. We already have 3 camcorders from over the years and I can borrow a couple more from family. I'll try and look around to see if someone will do a combined price for the 2

Just an idea but we have 3 go pro's that we are putting all around our barn during the reception, they run on remote or you can just prop them to take photos/videos. We are having a photographer & a videographer, but we are using these to get candid shots and videos after the videographer and photographer leave. This maybe something you could do if you have a go pro or friend who has one for the ceremony.

I wouldn't skip the DJ unless you are having a non meal time party. THe DJ is the person who keeps the party going and Emcees all the events.

If its really important to you ask about the smallest package they have, what the pricing is, and then calculate how much you need to save a month to pay for it. You have a little over a year and a half so if its important to you it should be doable.

I think skimping on some of the "extras" makes sense but I wouldn't consider the DJ an extra.

If you want the video just the have the recording of the ceremony and maybe a couple of other moments and don't care about the production quality, I would ask someone to record it on their phone or a cheap camera with video abilities.

If you want to start getting into multiple angles and recording more than a couple moments, then I think you should look into hiring a professional. A lot of photographers have a package that includes both, so it won't be as expensive as hiring two different people.

I am still trying to decided if I want to try and do this myself, but I am leaning towards not wanting to burden any of my guests with the responsibility.

I wouldn't skip the dj to hire a videographer- but I would definitely be willing to go the route of setting up tripods around to capture the ceremony instead of hiring a professional.

It doesn't make sense to me that your options are either pay for this expensive videographer- or ditch it completely. The video is for you and your FH, if you don't mind it not being done by a professional- do it,

I'm not willing to pay for a videographer, but I would be very pleased just to have a recording of it, even if it's taken on a cellphone

Some videographers offer low cost because they will give you only raw footage. I know I saw a few while I was looking for my videographer and photographer. One was only 500 and he offered raw footage. The one I found offered me a better rate because I only want the 6 hours not full day so he gave me 35 percent off and when I added both vidography and photography I got 45 percent off my whole price. And it was off wedding wire, and he had great reviews.

Definitely hire a DJ, but if the one you're talking to only goes until 10 (never heard of this before!) then look for another DJ to go until you need them to. They probably have a package with x number of hours and then you can add on. What kind of DJ only goes until 10?

I wouldn't mind trying to see if there's a company that does all 3 for 1 price in our area but I doubt it. Smiley sad

How do you DJ your own party and also enjoy said party? Skip the video it sounds like a logistics nightmare. Who is going to edit all the raw footage from 5 camcorders?

I think I misunderstood, I thought you decided to get a DJ. I would highly highly HIGHLY recommend it!!! Some DJs will stay for longer hours, mine is staying extra time...of course it will cost more though.
