Videographer Pricing

We met with a videographer last night that I loved. His pricing was higher than I wanted to pay ($3K) but I love his work and felt comfortable with him. We're incredibly lucky that my parents are paying for the wedding. My mom tends to be very frugal and "googled" the average price of a videographer at $1000-$1500. I tried to explain that I'm going off of reviews, looking at quality and considering packages but I don't think she is hearing me. What are you guys paying for videography and was anyone disappointed going with a "discount" videographer?

I paid for a "discount" videographer I guess...newer to the industry, still trying to get his barrings. Not happy. I just got sent the raw footage end of July (which my wedding was 1/7) and that was after a strongly worded email with the help of WW because he's been giving me excuses since March. Still waiting on the actual edited films. In my strongly worded email, I gave the deadline of 8/31 for the two films paid for (3-4 minute highlight reel and a 20-30 minute feature film). Not looking too promising to receive this week, so not sure what I will do. I definitely would have paid more in hindsight to get a professional, with a bigger portfolio. But I also didn't budget in videography and this was a squeeze in because I thought some video is better than no video. Which I still agree with, I prefer this over not hiring at all but if I knew better I would've spent a little more for a better videographer and cut elsewhere.

Most decent ones in my area are at least $2500. We are paying $3600. I would just save up and pay the difference. If you mom wants to contribute a $1K thats wonderful, you could pay the $2K difference. You have over a year to make it happen.

$2,050 in Chicagoland area! We upgraded a few things but I think base pricing was $1,800.

We are paying $3,500 for ours but their quality is out of this world. Normally I wouldn't pay that much but they are worth it and I had to have them.

We're having a cousin do "videography". She's a high schooler. Just want to be able to watch my ceremony for the rest of my life.

As PP mentioned, pricing is dependent on a number of factors - experience, location, services, etc. In NOVA. We are paying $3800 for 2 shooters, 10 hours total, a highlight reel, and a longer feature video. I honestly priced both low and high and ultimately decided to find the money to pay more based on the quality differences that I saw.

The quote was for 10 hours, 2 (poss 3) shooters. The 10-15 min film is $2950 and the 45-90 min film with a trailer is $3550. I'm really glad I posted this because you all confirmed what I was thinking! Thanks a million!

We're in CT and got the cheapest package with the best more affordable videographer and are paying $2,000. However, most of the videographers we met with were $3,000-$6,000.

$2200 here. This was the most affordable quote I could find, but at a good quality level too. I just knew spending less (and I could have) would have left me disappointed. I was referred to my videographer by my photographer.

My photographer has an add-on package for videography that is $850 for the ceremony only and a basic edited video. I'm definitely more impressed with their photography than videography (they were my dream photographer), but I don't really care all that much-I just want a record of it, nothing spectacular. They'll tap into the sound system at the venue and get good sound, and it will be better than just a camera set up on a tripod in the balcony. I was never planning on hiring a videographer, but the fact my photographer had an add-on package, I just jumped on the opportunity. In my area, it seems normal for a $1,000 to be the average "basic package" price, with nothing too fancy, and sometimes just ceremony coverage only. I don't know what you're looking at, but $3,000 doesn't seem expensive to me at all if you're planning on getting full-day coverage with a high-quality edited video afterwards. Videography is definitely a lot more complicated than photography, so I would totally expect it to be the same or more than the photographer price.

Ours is $1500 and includes a lot, even her travel fees as we don't have very many options in our area so they are driving 3 hours!

Mine is $4k. They are the same videographers who did my brother and SIL's wedding (we all watch their video constantly and cry every time) so I knew I wanted to hire them for our wedding. It is just as important, if not more, as photos in my opinion.

My photography & videography is $1650 & that's with a discount! Maybe you & your FH should pay for it since your parents is paying for everything else.
