vfw Reception?

Lynn, on February 24, 2018 at 1:58 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10

Hi Everyone!

My fiance and I have been engaged since last May. We have looked into SEVERAL wedding reception venues, however, they have all been outside of our budget. We are estimating about 225 guests (but possibly less than that). We are paying for the wedding ourselves. We were looking at have our wedding ceremony at a local park and then having our reception at a local VFW. Has anyone had a nice reception a place like a VFW or have any advice? Any pictures for inspiration? Smiley smile

I realize the VFW may not be the most luxurious and I shouldn't care what people think because we will be married by the end of the day and celebrate with friends and family. Also, people are going to remember the time they had, not the decor. My fiance and I are pretty laid back people. But I just wanted to hear opinions from others.

I really appreciate the feedback! Thank you so much!

I went to a wedding at a VFW once. It was very nice. They used lighting and decor to decorate the room. They saved a lot of money by being able to pick their own caterer and hired 2 bartenders. The dj was great also. Using a VFW Hall is a great way to keep costs down

I think it’s a great idea. As long as there is good food and music, the setting isn’t as important.

As long as you have catered food from a licensed catering company and professional bartenders, sounds like a great plan!

Our wedding is at the hall at the local fire company. Sure, it's not super fancy, but it is a blank slate, so I can decorate however I want and there is no ugly carpet to clash with. We looked into lots of different types of venues, and we just liked this one best. Price was affordable, staff was friendly, and they have everything we needed, even a cute little ceremony site. If the vfw has what you want, I say go for it!

I think the venue doesn’t matter as much as how you host. You could have it at the Ritz and do bare minimum hosting. Your guests will just remember the cash bar and lack of food and the Spotify playlist. But I’ve never heard anyone complain about a community center or fire hall as long as there was ample food, booze & entertainment.

My friend got married and had the reception at the VFW....I was part of the wedding party....and honestly i was there to witness her marriage and join the celebration. It did not matter if it was a VFW or the White house. It was decorated and we had a good time!

A lot of people from my hometown have their wedding receptions at our local VFW. If you have the right decorations, it won’t matter where the reception is! I’d look on Pinterest for ideas and see if your DJ (if you’re having one) has cool lighting effects that you can add.

I have been to many VFW and Fire hall receptions and let me tell you they are the absolute best! Everyone is always all smiles and enjoying themselves.

This is a long shot, because the post is so old. But I was curious to know if you went though with the VFW hall wedding and if so - how did it turn out?!

Do you have to have a licensed person do the cake at the VFW? We are getting the rest of the food from the VFW.
