Venues/Catering follow up emails AFTER you have rejected them?

Smiley, on April 30, 2012 at 6:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

So this is just a little bit of a vent, but it has happened SEVERAL times!

Has anyone been having the experience of vendors constantly contacting you AFTER you have politely rejected them? I have been so frustrated lately, I am replying with "xxx, See email from (date) (or several, LOL when I am really frustrated). We have already booked a (venue/caterer, etc). Thank you for your follow up" ... Just had to vent! Would love to know if this is happening to others.

Of course it happens to us all. I have had people sending me all kinds of emails after I've told them on the phone that I already have someone booked. The best thing to do is make sure to 'unsubscribe' to the emails (versus just deleting them) and make sure to tell the person who calls you that you appreciate the fact that they are just trying to do their job, but you've already said 'no' politely and if they call you again you are going to get really upset. That normally puts an end to things.

Seriously?? These are sales motivated vendors! Be glad you did not select them!

Yes! I hated it. I also hated it when I had a caterer keep emailing me after he kept trying to get me to do a fajita bar and I told him several times that is not what I wanted to do for my wedding.

Elisa, all businesses should be sales motivated. That's how you stay in business. If you get constant emails that just tells me it's a disorganized office, or they are training a newbie in sales. Or, you weren't clear with your no. Some bride are nervous to say no because they don't want to hurt anyone's feelings so they don't really say no.

This was my typical initial rejection email (with their name and my name listed): "Thank you so much for your time and forwarding me the information. We have decided to go with a hotel venue and therefore are no longer considering the catering option. I do appreciate your helpfulness in the emails." All communications I am referring to were emails (in both rejections and follow up from vendors, as that was my primary initial contact for all). For any brides, feel free to use if you find helpful.

@CrystalS - thank you for mentioning the spam, I hadn't thought of that - so I will try to stay more open-minded. Smiley smile

Thankfully, this is not how I do business. If I don't hear from a bride & communication becomes dead, it is a clue to me that they have selected another vendor.
