Venues on a budget

I am getting very frustrated. We are on a rather small budget of $3,500 for the entire wedding. We keep getting responses from venues, saying that their pricing is almost all or above our budget! I am getting very frustrated. We are on a rather small budget of $3,500 for the entire wedding. We keep getting responses from venues, saying that their pricing is almost all or above our budget! Average I am getting for just renting the space is over $2,500. To some, the pricing they are offering may not seem like a whole lot. But I cannot fathom spending that amount of money for a half day event (just my feelings, not judging others for their budgets!). We only have 40 people, including us. We are cutting cost every where that is possible (no flowers, FH is not renting a suit, my dress will be on sale, etc.).

We are struggling with making it happen.

    ***Update!!***

We went to see a venue last night. It is everything that we were hoping to find! We can officially check "find venue" off of our list! We still have to pay $250 to seal the deal, but due to it being so far out, we have a little bit of time to pay our deposit. Our date has been set too (we were basing our date on what was available for whatever venue we chose). Our venue includes linens, buffet, full staff, ceremony, reception, a cash bar (we will be providing small amount of pre-paid liquor for the toast and like one or two drinks for each guest), and it is on a FRIDAY during peak season! We are under budget too!

Before deciding on just eloping, we had this exact same issue. Venue pricing is absurd! Have you considered looking for large, private rentals through AirBnB? Thats how we found our venue! There are lots of gorgeous homes all over the country where you would be able to hold a wedding for 40 no problem. If possible, making it an outdoor ceremony and reception also makes planning a lot cheaper. There may be local rose gardens or a gorgeous state park where you could hold a ceremony for little to no cost. Another good way of cutting cost is to keep catering simple. See if your favorite Italian restaurant could put something together, plan a pot luck, or keep it very simple with a buffet of nicely displayed finger foods.
