Venue not giving us the option to postpone

Our wedding date is in August and it’s out of state and at this point I’m just not having a good feeling about it. Our venue won’t give us the option the postpone, the only way we can move our date is if we cancel, lose all the money we paid, and pick another date. Does anyone else think this is...
Our wedding date is in August and it’s out of state and at this point I’m just not having a good feeling about it. Our venue won’t give us the option the postpone, the only way we can move our date is if we cancel, lose all the money we paid, and pick another date. Does anyone else think this is wrong? Maybe it’s just me, but I think that venues should be more understanding about people wanting to move their date with everything going on right now.

I am so sorry to hear that many of you have vendors who are not flexible during this pandemic! I work for a national restaurant brand (Maggiano's) and we are happy to accommodate moving our weddings to a future date, no postponement fees apply. In addition, if a couple needs to cancel, we totally understand and are refunding their deposit in full. Check your force majeure section, you should be protected by it. Even if there is not a stipulation in there, any reputable venue should make the accommodation. Frankly, I'd be concerned about the viability of the venues that aren't flexible with taking care of their guests....that's not a sustainable business model.

Ugh what a horrible situation to be in. I really hope everything gets sorted out and you’re able to have your wedding. It’s so sad that even during a pandemic that is completely out of anyone’s control a wedding venue wouldn’t be 100% understanding about someone wanting to postpone when they’ve put so much time and effort and money into their wedding.

OMG we are in the same boat for our Oct wedding! And I'm so infuriated to see all the ladies going through the same situation! Our venue is refusing to let us postpone UNLESS government issues any lockdown for October. We are on the hook for 50% (3+ months prior) 75% (1-3 months prior) and 100% (<1 month prior) of the cost and our venue is super expensive and probably accounted for 80% of my wedding expenses.

The sales manager effectively told me what did you expect? For us to roll over and close the hotel and not make money when we can? OMG I wanted to punch her in the face through the phone.

I seriously think we need to create and start a blacklist for these awful vendors and warn all future brides and grooms from booking these places!!! Applying some social pressure to see if it will help the ladies struggling with the same issues.

I agree with the Blacklist. Our venue has been somewhat wishy-washy with... well, maybe it will work out, and everything will be back on track. We're taking it week by week and planning as far as we can, but dang. I understand about businesses being able to operate, but you don't have to be jerks about it.
