Dedicated October 2021

Venue is unresponsive

Krystina, on January 19, 2021 at 1:10 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

We booked our venue back in June of 2020 for an October 2021 wedding. We met with our coordinator through the venue in October 2020, and haven't heard anything from the venue or the coordinator since. I've tried to contact them numerous times through e-mail, phone, and even their Instagram page. I was giving them kind of a break because of everything going on with COVID, but I'm starting to feel very concerned that I have vendors for a venue that is going out of business! I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I've started calling other venues owned by the same company just to find out what's going on. No matter who I try to call, it goes to voice mail or just rings endlessly until the line disconnects.

Is anyone else having trouble communicating with their venue with everything going on? How are venues supposed to stay in business when they can't operate fully for over a year?

Our venue was pretty responsive throughout all of COVID. We booked them before covid was a thing and we never lost contact. How long has it been since you've been trying to contact them?

I've been trying to contact them since the beginning of November 2020.

I'm really alarmed because we booked them so early knowing that there would be issues with COVID, and at this point I not only wonder what venues have availability left, but if I can even trust that they'll remain open long enough to have the wedding! It's also likely if they're going out of business we won't get our $5k deposit back.

That is very alarming. how about going in person? they can't avoid you if you show up. worst case scenario they're closed . . at least you'll have answers.

That is terrible! Our venue was somewhat good about communication throughout. Sounds like they’re deciding to claim chapter 11 bankruptcy which would probably be in their favor with all those deposits down! Horrible, but that is definitely a possibility.

I mean, there's nowhere to go. It's a restaurant for an art festival. The whole place is shut down when the festival isn't happening. The times we went to visit, we had to have an employee let us in.

Yeah, my suspicions is that the company as a whole is looking to file bankruptcy and is avoiding letting their clients know so they don't have to return the deposits.

Wow I'm so sorry. Definitely look for another venue asap and pray that you get your deposit back. If anything you have the unanswered emails and outgoing calls as proof that you were doing your part to reach out.

Now because your new date is later in 2021 my venue told me they wont reach out to me till 4 months out. No one knows whats going on because of COVID so they are busy dealing with weddings closer to date rather than out. At this point I dont think they need to respond to you unless you canceling? I reached out earlier this month and they told me they wont meet with me till April for my July wedding due to things constant changing. But this will be my first get together since I booked with them October 2019.

That'd be fine with me if they told us that, but they haven't given us any notice at all. And there's nothing on their website or automated phone systems or anything. I just want to know what's going on. Smiley atonished

I heard back from the sales director at the venue, supposedly everything is fine, they're just busy. When I mentioned COVID they were like yeah, that has us busy. Our coordinator is also "out of the office" which doesn't particularly explain why she's ghosted us for three months. But we're still booked and on for October. I'm still like...

Yiiikes, I'd be a little sketched out to stick with this venue.

In theory, all venues are busy, and all are dealing with COVID -- what's different is how they handle it and communicate. My venue communicated with me all throughout last year, and I never had a problem reaching my coordinator -- even if she just sent a quick email to tell me she wouldn't be able to answer my questions for a few days because she was slammed with a wedding and another event.

One of the upsides to our venue being a country club was that they had a few options to keep them going -- a restaurant with a patio option, member dues/donations, golf events where people could distance outside, etc.

It's so hard to know how wedding-only or wedding-dominant venues are going to fare.

Yeah, I just wish they'd communicated with me more. I don't know if it's just something in particularly going on with the coordinator? Their sales director emailed me after the phone call and I emailed back my thoughts on everything, but all she'll tell me about the coordinator is just that she's out of the office. I'm kind of hoping that the issue is sort of restrained to this one person, but even then I would hope that if they knew something was going on, they'd reach out to whoever she was working with to let them know??? I don't know.

I'd look into other venues, but I'm not even sure how to go about that. "Hey can you hold this date for us just in case?" If possible it'd be nice to stick with our existing venue... we still like it and if we try to back out we won't get the deposit back. At the same time I'm hesitant to give them any more money unless I know I can get a hold of them consistently if I need to.

I just searched because i'm having the exact same issue with my venue. We booked our venue in december.... and haven't heard much since.. We try to ask them questions and will get ghosted for a month... then suddenly our date is in jeopardy because some corporate event... but we were promised our date? I've been trying to put down the deposit for it since dec 6th and they won't talk to us... it's kind of insane... I'm not sure if we should just go with another venue which would be a real shame but possible...
