I knew this was going to happen, but our venue also changed the menu options as well. FH and I had decided on serving chicken to all our guests. It was the cheapest (At $27 PP for just dinner) and now that option no longer exists. Depending on how many attend we are looking at an overall increase of $1500-$2000. Cocktail hour food wentt up, bar cost went up, dinner cost and late night food all went up. We now have to really sit down and start taking away some of the &GUESTS we were allowing some people to bring. Thankfully invitations wont go out for months so we can make these decisions. Just bummed overall. I've drained my savings and will use my taxes and bonus to cover the rest but I don't think I have another $2000 to spare. Anyone else run into this?

PS. Our venue did advise when we booked that pricing and menu would change. I was just surprised how much.

My venue locked my prices in. no way i was going to go with them if it was going to be any more expensive than they are.

You guys, we all understand now that her venue did not lock her in at 2013 prices and stated up front that prices WOULD go up for 2014 events which she agreed. Perhaps folks can offer some useful advice or ideas instead of just saying that their venue didn't do that. That is great, but not very helpful to the OP.

We locked in a contract so prices didn't go up. But my venue had a 15 dollar per person increase which I think is crazy! I don't want to think about how much it will like ten years from now. Looks like hubby is stuck with meSmiley smile

Is there anyway you can scan or take pictures of your contract and post for us to see? We may can find you some loopholes! (loophole master)

This is one reason I am SO glad I did not book a venue that forces me to use their catering. My venue also raised prices on EVERYTHING they offer, shortly (and I mean SUPER SHORTLY!) after we signed the contract. Everything from setting up of chairs being included, to tablecloths and more. The only thing that appears to be cheaper, is we most likely do not need to purchase outside insurance.

I would contact your venue coordinator and let them know, you just cannot fit their price increases into your budget, nor would you have went with them if you had known of this preposterous increase. Maybe they will honor the prices from when you signed? Or can you change to an appetizer only reception? Bring in your own food/caterers? I detest that anything with "wedding" before it mean, ridiculous prices. For $15 or $25 PP, I better be eating lobster.

Thank you Stephanie! While I understand you all think its crazy, cash bars are also normal in my neck of the woods. Nuff said right? All the venues in our area did the same thing so it would have happened no matter where we went.

I will be discussing with them the menu change because that was one of the reasons we booked. Bringing our own food is not an option, I asked this originally. We loved the venue and wont be changing I just didn't think prices would go up as much as they did.
