Venue dilemma Puerto Rico

Claudia, on January 17, 2020 at 3:56 AM Posted in Planning 0 3
Good morning brides !
I’ve been having a lot of trouble choosing a venue for our beach destination wedding.
It doesn’t help that I’m already an indecisive person. It has to be at a hotel because they are the only ones offering beach , back up and the package to get married in the beach.
My fiancé is from the west side of Puerto Rico.
Our wedding will hopefully be in April 2021.
I didn’t realize weddings in Puerto Rico can be very very expensive.
So far I may have narrowed down to two venues .1) La perla at La Concha beach resort in San Juan .Pros: it’s 20 mins from SAn Juan airport so easy accessibility for everyone People don’t necessarily have to rent a car if they chose to attend wedding only. Everyone will enjoy this venue My wedding coordinator was able to bargain decorations for me Most importantly: the venue is ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS BEAUTIFUL , ideal for a wedding and dancing in my opinion.
Cons: very very expensive . Minimum consumption is $14K on Saturday. For 120 people and alcohol is about $20K !!! And that’s not even w open bar is with cork fee ! (I’d bring my own wine and liquor) .The hotel is very very expensive to stay at : average $350 -450/ night so people and maybe even me would have to spend extra money on expensive hotel stay

2) Rincon of the Seas . Located 2.5 hours westOf San Juan. There is another airport in Aguadilla which is only 40 mins away from the resort .Pros: ballroom has ocean view although not as pretty or luxurious as Perla it still has view to the ocean. The sunsets in the west of Puerto Rico are magical and so is the water .My fiancé’s grandma will most likely be able to attend Rincon over San Juan , It’s substantially CHEAPER! $12000 for 130 people with 2 hours of open bar and food. Rooms more affordable than La Concha . Cons : i don’t know any wedding planner there or hook ups , the rooms are not as remodeled as Concha , the layout of the ballroom is not as Perla although still beautiful , is not Perla ballroom.
I also thought about holding ceremony at Rincon and then reception next day in San Juan but my family said that people don’t want to be traveling 2.5 hours around .
I do want to be cost conscious .
They do lower minimum requirement at Perla on Friday’s and sundays but if I really want to save Is have to order cash bar or mainly cork fee .

Help!!!! I just feel bad spending so much money just on venue , food and alcohol when there’s so much more to spend already for a wedding !

I agree that seems like a lot of money, but in the end it all comes down to your budget. You need to decide on that, and then it will become much easier for you to decide if one of these venues is right for you.
Since it’s a destination wedding, you also need to consider travel costs for your guests. Will they be able to afford to fly there and stay? Having over 100 people is a huge destination wedding, but since your fiancé is from Puerto Rico, that accounts for some of that number I’m sure. I only mention this because you don’t want to plan for a big wedding and then your guests not be able to afford to come. I’m also having a destination wedding, but knew from the get-go that half my guest list wasn’t going to come. By knowing this, I was able to choose a venue the right size and had more flexibility with my budget.
But definitely get that budget locked down if you haven’t already. You’re right, the dress and everything else costs a lot of money too, and you don’t want to spend all your money on the venue and not be able to get anything else you want.

    Hiiiii!
I’m getting married in Puerto Rico this May. Although I’m not getting married on the beach, my room block is with Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde. This hotel is beautiful as well and sits directly on the beach of Isla Verde. It’s in the Carolina area and very close to the airport. Which is why I picked it so my guest would be close if they chose not to rent a vehicle. The rooms average $200 a night depending on the season. I feel the wedding packages will be alittle more affordable as it’s not as fancy as La Concha but still very very beautiful. We stay here every year when we visit the San Juan area. I would maybe check their wedding packages out? Just a suggestion. You have more options than La Concha that are still very beautiful! Good luck!

Thank you my dear ! Yes !!!! I met Amnel last week he’s SO cute and very attentive , responsive , kind, nice , etc and honestly I fell in love with the terrace ! I was so disappointed when I learned that the terrace holds up to 80 or 100 people MAX. Franklyn has family in PR so unfortunately 80 would make it difficult .
If it comes down to 80 people at some point I would love to do it at Courtyard and I agree, it’s much more affordable than concha.

We were looking for a room that had an outdoor look either windows overlooking the beach or outdoor like the courtyard terrace that marriot has .
Thanks so much for contributing and you are right . I do have to think about our guests.
Good luck on your wedding in May! Isn’t this island freaking WONDERFUL?! I’m so excited !
