Venue deposit

Christine, on November 17, 2014 at 5:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

Our venue deposit it $3K. I have the money to put it down now, but I also have a credit card that offers points/cash back on purchases. I was thinking about putting 1/2 the deposit on my CC and paying the rest with a money order. Is this a smart idea? I see this only being beneficial, but of course there could be a downside that I'm not thinking of.

How did you pay your venue deposit? Fill me in, give me your opinions!

If there isn't a credit card processing fee I don't see why not just put it all on your card then pay it off immediately. I have done that with a few things to get the cash back in my credit card. Other places I have just done a check. I prefer to do credit card or check so that I have proof that it is paid, that is just my preference.

We put everything we can on the credit card we opened for the wedding then switch the amount we swiped to a separate savings account we opened to our credit card purchases. Not getting cash back/points is just wasting money. Just make sure that you can pay off what you put on.

We paid everything in cash or swiped and paid the credit card bill the next day with the cash.

Your date is still a long way off. If you are absolutely positive you won't change your mind about the date or the venue, put it on your cc to get the points (unless the venue is giving you a cash discount).

Use the card to get points and then use the cash to pay it off!

Alright! There isn't a processing fee and no interest until August 2015!

@Nancy Yes, it's pretty far off, BUT we have looked at quite a few places and this one just stood out to us. We are certain this is our place.

I would use the card then pay it off. Don't really see a downside.

Definitely put it all on a credit card. In addition to the points it also protects you much more. If something happens with your venue and you arnt protected the credit card can go to bat for you. (Though I have always felt this way, there was actually a segment about this on the news the other day)

We did almost everything on a credit card that we could but a lot of places had a 3 percent fee that went along with putting it on a credit card. Otherwise we paid with checks.

Yeah I would do it if i had a cash back CC and if there was no convenience fee. Also to save money a few of my vendors (i.e the lady making my cake and the lady making my macaroons) work out of home so CC payments aren't possible.

Even if there is a fee (which is ridiculous), I'd put it on the CC for the extra protection good credit card companies give you. Put the whole thing on your credit card and just pay it off when the statement comes.

Ours only takes check. If you have the money, just put it all on your card (if they let you) and pay it right off, so you get the cashback points.

We put a lot of the wedding on my CC and paid it off since my vendors were all out of town and it was easier than sending a cheque, we paid it off right away. I racked up a ton of aeroplan miles and am now paying for Christmas with them (spent them on gift cards). Woot!

We opened a credit card with rewards specifically for this reason. We get cash back on all of our purchases. FH pays it off in full each month. Id say do it!

Definitely use a credit card so you are protected in case their is a problem with your venue i.e fire, closes suddenly, bankrupt etc.

Yikes. That's a high deposit! Ours was $500. We paid with a credit card and paid off in a couple of days. If there are no fees for CC, then go for it!
