So I don’t know what to do, I booked with my venue about 6 months ago. And today I went on the website to show it to a coworker & the website wasn’t working. When I went on the wedding wire app it stated that they are no longer in business. I called them to double check what happened & they advised me that they are not taking new clients at the moment & they’ll be doing some new renovations in June. I asked about payments they said they can give us the account number to make payments.
I found it kinda fishy.

should I look for a new venue?

Yea, definitely find a new venue. They have no excuse for not involving their clients. I would try and get your money back as well.

Again, I did not pay in person. I have all the email threads & invoice. Along with I’ve only paid the deposit, which wasn’t much( I paid more money on my wedding dress). I haven’t made any other payments to them. I was saving the money in an account aside when it comes to pay I would pay in person. I received all the paperwork from them I just never had to physically sign anything. Or a “contract” of some sort. This venue, is recommended by a lot, does not have any negative reviews that I could find, nothing on the BBB. I’ve spoken to them via phone, and emails they never not ignored my calls or emails. I didn’t think much of a problem. They’re not closing, they’re just not taking any new clients to be able to do their renovations. The current weddings they have they are doing, I’ve seen them post on their Instagram insta story. I do believe them, I just wish they would of told us couples that are already booked what to expect. But as of now I will not be putting money towards that venue until I receive my contract later on today & when I see that they go back up and running for those new clients. As of now I have my back up, if it does not go through. I’m not going to stress right now, i have time to and solutions for my back up. At the moment I posted this I freaked out, but it’s not the end of the world for me.

Do you really want to worry about whether they’ll be in business for the next year? I’d definitely look for another venue. What kind of business doesn’t give you a contract but accepts your money - one that needs cash flow. Most businesses that are remodeling will post something on their website like, “Not accepting new bookings at this time” they don’t shut down their page.

Website is not down, they have it locked at the moment. Not sure if they’re updating their website. I didn’t ask. Another couple here booked with them 3 months ago and was told about the renovations along with what changes. & I have my back up plan. Which in 6 months I can pull of my back up.

Not sure, maybe a revamp. When I booked with them pretty much every weekend was booked until dec 2018. Like I said I’ll just wait and see, if not I do have my back up.

It seems like your doing all you can.

While the 'renovations' sound a little sketchy, you seem to have a grip on it.

It's a good sign that you are in contact with them. You've got a backup plan. Your putting the money to the side, just in case it goes bad.

No point in stressing, because it's not going to make anything better. Hope for the best & prepare for the worst. Keep a close eye on them and be ready to bail, if need be.

Thank you, I’ve already received my contract. I’m not gong to stress. I’ll just keep the money in the side until I meet with them.

    This...

the original post wasn't clear if you asked specifically about your wedding (beyond payments) - you need to find out if they have your wedding on the calendar, if the renovations will be done by February, did management change or are they just doing renovations (tho it would seem odd to shut down in the middle of summer - peak wedding season - for renovations) If there's new management, did they hire a new coordinator? Is your coordinator still employed? You don't have enough information to jump to conclusions... it MIGHT be fine... it may NOT be fine... but you need more info to decide...

I'm glad it seems to have worked out. I would definitely get cancellation insurance, just in case something goes wrong. I mean, I would get it anyway, but even more urgently.

I mean, businesses want to make improvements and hopefully they will make it even nicer. They should have notified you and it would have prevented this panic. My only concern is with them not taking on new contracts. If they are planning to reopen they should be booking dates for after the renovations are complete, since I'm sure they will have bills from the remodel to pay.

Again I wouldn’t worry about it, he’s had 100’s of weddings over there and he lives on the same land so I don’t think he will dip out in all the money coming in no time soon, and he’s done well on wedding wire. All these people will stress you out, just relax and continue saving money. I don’t see nothing wrong with the renovation especially if you put money don’t before it started which he told me our price wouldn’t go up but for only the people who put down after the renovation is finished.
