Venting: mail forwarding

Alexis, on July 23, 2021 at 3:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

Hi- I just want to vent and see if anyone else experienced this. We bought a house last month, sent out our invites for our 10/23/21 wedding a week before moving, and have since not received ANY RSVP's to our new address. They were prelabeled to our old address but we turned on our mail forwarding and our previous landlord has found nothing, we have nothing, we have called the mail company 3 times, to no avail.... I am getting super stressed out!!

Also- many people have told us they have sent theirs. We just aren't getting them.

The mail is slow. It may take a while but eventually you’ll get them!
Also, are you having a destination wedding? Sending invites for a 10/23 wedding seems rather early, so maybe some guests are waiting to RSVP as they get closer. The ones who said they sent them out may have just sent them out too.
I know it’s nerve wracking waiting for RSVPs but it’ll be okay! Just be patient!

So strange. Can you call up guests to get their replies at the due date?

My husband and I bought our house in April and we have also noticed that mail forwarding seems to be taking MUCH longer.

Mail forwarding takes forever. It probably adds at least two weeks to the mail service. My wedding is 10/22/21 and we just sent our invites. Many people have received invites but hardly anyone has RSVP’d yet. I think people wait until the deadline. Don’t stress yet. Wait until your rsvp deadline to stress!

When we first moved in together, I had my mail forwarded and some of my mail took an extra 2-3 weeks in the forwarding process. I would give it a bit more time, but I’d also be prepared to reach out to people closer to your rsvp date.

It's hard to say what the delay is. Mail service has slowed way down in the last year. When we sent our original invitations for our April 2020 wedding, a friend of mine who lives fifteen minutes from us didn't get his invitation until three weeks past the wedding date, at which point we'd already decided to postpone. My dad's girlfriend also sent her RSVP back pretty early on, but we never got it. That's part of why we also had an online RSVP option. As others have said, some people just slack off on sending theirs back and don't do so until the last minute. I wouldn't worry too much yet.

On another note, I'm also getting married 10-23-2021! Smiley heart

What is your RSVP due date? I wouldn't worry about this until then. After your due date, contact anyone you haven't heard from and go from there.

We had to pick up our mail from the post office once after mail forwarding. Have you called to see if that is the issue?

It’s super early to be expecting rsvps for an October wedding. Normally people would send invites out around now. I would wait until the return date or send out new invites with your current address. If you knew you were moving ideally you would have had the return cards changed prior to mailing… I wouldn’t count on mail forwarding for something like that.

I work for the post office and if they sent the mail to your old address, any mail that is being forwarded will sit for about a week until the trays are full, and then it is shipped to the plant. Add this to the two-week wait time for the change of address to go through and it will take a while. So they are sending them, but it takes a while. And as a former supervisor, they won't know what is happening with the mail when the plant is involved ( after a while mail will stop going to the old post office and be re-routed from the plant to your new address) and they probably won't answer the phone. Hopefully, this helps, good luck!
