Vendors that don’t respond

Tiffany, on September 9, 2019 at 10:28 AM Posted in Planning 0 11
So I’m not getting married until 2021 and I realize planning this far in advance as I’m doing is probably insane, but I’m so excited! I have my venue, DJ, photog/videog already secured. I’m just really frustrated with finding a florist. I have one I really like thus far, she’s a soft yes just waiting on an improvised quote, she’s been great so far. But when do you write off a vendor? I had a consult with a different florist on 8/24 and she told me she’d have a quote the following week. She emailed me back on 8/30 and said it’d be another week because she was so busy that week, but I still haven’t heard anything back. She’s probably thinking because I have so much time or idk, but I don’t want an unreliable vendor the day of! What do you guys think? Am I overreacting or should I write her off?

If you really want her, I would just give it time. I'm sure it's very possible she has a lot of weddings going on and with your date being so far out, it's probably not her first priority at the moment. That being said, you definitely don't want an unreliable vendor, so if she gives you the vibe that she doesn't care enough about your business, then definitely write her off. If it were me, I would just be patient given your wedding is just under two years away.

Should I reach out or just wait for her email?

Ah, yes, I ran into this too with florists. I think she definitely thinks you have a lot of time and don't need anything right away. One florist told me she could not quote me until about 6 months from the wedding because the prices of flowers was always changing. I know not all vendors are like that, but florist was my biggest problem, too!

What i've learned is that a lot of vendors schedule you and then don't really want to communicate until it's either time to put money down or when it's getting closer to the date. So I wouldn't write off the florist just because they took awhile to get a quote to you. I think you can send a friendly reminder and just see what they say.

If you truly feel uncomfortable with this then check out other vendors.

I wouldnt write her off yet.
Yeah it's a little frustrating to have a delay in communication but it's still wedding season, schools will be having homecoming dances soonish, and you still have almost 2 years to go. Cut her a little slack!

It's unfortunate that she's not more responsive, but keep in mind that this means that she's focusing on the couples whose weddings are coming up sooner than later. That means that she'll give you that same treatment when your day is approaching. She should be better about giving you updates and letting you know about the delay, but it sounds like she does have her priorities in order. I wouldn't be concerned about her not being responsive later on.

I disagree with pp. if you don’t hear back in another week find someone else. Because if they’re bad at communicating now it’ll only get worse. I had to let go of a lot of vendors/venues.

That’s been my concern! I understand I have time, however if she isn’t communicating with me now what can I expect during my time. I will give her another week before I write her off.

Yea I’ve had vendors not respond at all but I got a read receipt so I know they saw the message. I’ve had phone appointments set up and got ghosted. The recommended dj for my venue didn’t reply when I contacted him 18 months out, but I contacted him again 4 months out and he still didn’t respond. I don’t understand why people don’t want my money but I’m happy to give it to someone else.

Update! I received an email today apologizing for the delay from the florist she said they’ve been really busy and finally quoted me. I actually never reached out I was waiting until next week if I didn’t hear anything.

I'm also getting married in 2021 and most florists wait until a year out because prices change from year to year.
