Wedding planning is such a learning curve. We are making progress by narrowing down our caterer and dj. I was surprised to see in their proposals that they do not accept credit cards. I was a little surprised but it is pretty awesome actually. At this rate we won't have much debt when all is said and done. For me it is a disciplinary factor and I love the idea they only accept check, cash ... for this reason. I almost whipped out the credit card to pay the dj the deposit. Not so fast ... I will have to withdraw from the bank acct and yay most of my dj is paid w/out interests! Its a good feeling, but I did not know this before this process. Does anybody know if they are all like this? Like, the florist for example. Do they only accept cash, credit for their contracts? It seems anything with a contract won't accept cc's.

There are fees everywhere. A business should put the cc fees into their price. I would hate it if my vendors didn't accept cc. I'm too lazy to write a check lol, let me swipe or you key in. I would look at a vendor funny if they told me, they didn't want to pay another business THEIR fee. So why should I pay you? So now it's an inconvenience for me. Suck it up buttercup, their are costs.

My friend mentioned this to me, but this wasn't the case with us. I refuse to hand someone cash for something so big like a wedding service. We have only used a credit card for protection - we pay it off as soon as we use it.

We've been able to use our credit card for a couple vendors. our caterer is a restaurant, so they took a credit card. also, our videographer just takes all payments online via paypal. no fees for either of them.

for our other vendors, most of the time they'll take a credit card but they add a processing fee on top of the charge. if they charge an extra fee, we just write them a check. if they don't charge a fee, we use our credit card when we can.

either way is fine for us. when we use our credit card, it's getting paid right off anyway. we just get rewards on our cards. we've accumulated no debt so far... the plan is to actually pay off all of our other debt before the wedding. starting out our marriage in debt is not an option! haha.

Our only vendors that don't take credit cards are the photographer (small business) and the band (paying by cash saves us the 13% tax). I was disappointed though because we won't get the points! Everything else has gone on our credit card, and since May of last year we have earned an $800 flight for free and our $622 hotel stay at the beginning of our honeymoon for free! We always pay the balance off immediately. I use the credit card for everything, because free money! I understand if you don't trust yourself not to run up the credit and go into debt, but I don't worry about that for myself and FH.

I used a credit card for every vendor that accepted them and didn't pay a lick of interest. Credit cards can be used like they are cash and get you reward, as long as you use them right. Plus consumer protection, like SunshineJenn said.

Vendors can also pay to be on a preferred vendor list, it doesn't really mean anything necessarily.

I did a lot of check writing for our wedding. I preferred that over a CC, and most of my vendors did too. Some also did PayPal stuff, but PayPal takes a cut, so checks were always what they preferred.

Some credit card companies and some states do not allow the vendor to charge you a fee for using your card.

It is not just a percentage of the charge, but also a monthly fee involved for the vendor.

I accept cash, check, money order -- and my fee is just a drop in the bucket of the total cost of a wedding.

I prefer to pay with credit cards because of the added protection. I also get travel miles for purchases and since wedding planning being so expensive, I would love to rack up extra miles to use for the honeymoon.

All of my vendors have taken credit cards but with a fee like 3 percent. We have been glad to have the credit card option not because of debt but because it is easier to track and because my parents are getting miles and things of that sort out of the deal. I do think its a bit annoying for a such a big purchase that they add the 3 percent because their dollar amount they are getting when running credit cards is HUGE but as a small business I also know that sometimes the fee's associated with running a credit card can eat up all the profit.

Our venue doesn't take credit cards which was a small downfall for us. My dad offered to pay our deposit with his credit card because he gets airline miles with it. So now we're covering the deposit ourself until we find a vendor that does take CC so he can cover the cost Smiley smile

For vendors who fee is on the lower side, we are paying them cash/check the day of the wedding. I didn't even ask them if they accept credit/debit card payment, but I know the companies charge a fee and I want them to be able to get all of the money they're charging me as opposed to giving some away to the credit card companies. (These are all small businesses/independent contractors). I'm sure they would appreciate being paid by check/cash.

I do agree with you ladies when it comes to use a credit card where you get cash back or some kind of perks. Or even using a credit card that's interest free for 12-18months and paying it off within that time frame.

I want my Alaska miles for FH and I's travel plans after were married! Every vendor that takes a credit card, gets it! We pay it off each month so no interest has been paid on that thing.

I've had some vendors not accept it, but it's smaller ones like our DOC, cupcake deposit (although the balance can be paid by card when we need to finalize the deposit), and DJ deposit. Caterer took it, photog took it, etc.
