Vendors cash / check only

Alli, on August 2, 2020 at 8:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 13
Is it quite normal for vendors, specifically, photographers and videographers to only accept forms of payment in cash or check only...?

Yes I would say that’s normal! With technology now days many of them also accept cash app, zelle, etc

Yes, I've found it quite common with most of our wedding vendors. Just don't make any payments without a clear contract in place that addresses what the payment is for, what is/not refundable, etc.

My vendors all accepted credit card payments online. None of mine asked for cash/check. I don't think it's necessarily a concern if they request that form of payment, though if you do pay in cash (or actually, this applies regardless of the form of payment), I recommend getting a receipt.

It’s likely because there’s a pretty hefty fee that the vendors are charged by credit card companies for every transaction.

Credit card payments are hard for small businesses because of the fees associated. Checks and cash avoid that. I personally would go with a check to have some form of a paper trail in addition to the contract.

It's probably common, but I wouldn't do it. Maybe a check, but if at all possible, do credit card. I would never pay a vendor in cash. But I am a stickler for paper trails and security.

Yep! All of my vendors only take cash or check. Our venue allowed our deposit to be made by credit card but everything else cash or check. Our engagement session photographer asked for cash, check, or Venmo. We chose Venmo and paid her immediately after the session. I would personally pay by check or electronic (Venmo, Cash app) so there's some sort of paper trail.

All of ours accepted cash or card payment, but preferred cash.
