Vendor Tips

Hey there! Can someone tell me the etiquette for tipping vendors? Is it necessary if you’re paying them thousands of dollars already?

A tip should be given if you feel that the vendor has done an excellent job. Here is an article I found about tipping vendors: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-ideas/wedding-tipping-guide-amp.html

Hey there! Tipping vendors can be tricky for sure. The general rule is to tip the employees of the vendor you hired. So if you hired a caterer who brings in a wait staff, you need to tip the wait staff 18%-20% just like at a restaurant. Same for bartenders and the people who set up/breakdown rentals. It's customary to also tip your hair and makeup artist 20%. If you hire a photography company to shoot your wedding and they are paying the photographer, you should tip the photographer, but if you hired your photographer directly there's no need to. The same applies to other big company vendors.

Of course, if you feel as if your vendor has gone above and beyond and deserves a little more, no one will turn down a tip.
(These guidelines are based on American standards. Tipping etiquette is vastly different in other cultures.)

You tip them if they go above and beyond the call of duty. You do not tip for bad service or simply showing up to do their job without going the extra mile. Some vendors have a tip built into the price as a gratuity in which case you do not tip extra. You really need to wait until a week or so after the event when you aren't on your wedding day high and can objectively assess how each of the vendors performed. At that point, send your tip, if any, with a thank you note.

Sometimes their fees include gratuity but you can always tip more if you think they deserve it
