Vendor tips

Carly, on August 25, 2020 at 1:04 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7
Hi ladies!

Just wondering what your planning on tipping your vendors? Are you doing like 20% of total cost or a set price for everyone?? Just wondering because 20% adds up quick when your vendors are thousands! Lol.

20% can add up quickly! Luckily our venue is all-inclusive and includes tips for all their included vendors! Our florist owners her own business so we will likely not tip. We'll use the link below for guidance on Hair & Make-Up, Photographer, Officiant, Alterations and, cake delivery.

    For tips we have
caterer (includes tips in their pricing)
Bar tender (will tip based off of final count)
We are giving gifts to HAMUPhotographer DJ (family friend who doesn't want to be paid)Pastor
I haven’t decided what to do about our designer (owns her business) and our venue manager. I don’t want to tip the venue manager and then it go into the venues wallet so I’m thinking we might just give her a gift as well

It does add up, if you're still in the budgeting phase, add their tips to the quote so you work tips into the overall wedding budget.

I followed the guidelines for % based on service in my area. I labeled the envelopes, inserted the cash in each, but kept them unsealed. My MOH had extra cash and was able to adjust before she handed it over. We didn't have anyone she took from, there was a couple she wanted to acknowledge for remarkable service and added to their envelopes.

Look closely you caterer or bar staff -- they may already have gratuity added into their amount. Don't double tip.
Couple other notes: I started getting $100 cash per pay period to make sure I had cash for tips.
On the inside flap I wrote the service. Incase she forgot Michele was the florist. Michele was prominent on the outside of the envelope. But it just helped her.
I also knew the schedule and timeline inside and out so I wrote on the inside flap when I thought it would be appropriate that she start looking for then to be sure no one was missed before they left site.
Another good way to reward good vendors are through thorough and specific review comments.
    Good luck. Sherri

If they own their own business I believe the tipping etiquette is to not tip them. Our BBQer and our dj work for a company so we will be tipping them cash.

I’m not tipping anyone who owns their own business (except the bartender who I will put out a tip jar for)

Okay awesome, thanks! Yes, all of vendors except for my cake company are independent and own their own company.. (florist, DJ, Hair & Makeup, photographer) so I don't neceserally need to tip them then?
