vendor response times

ldc21, on May 1, 2016 at 1:33 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I was just wondering if anyone had any insight into what typical and acceptable vendor response times are when contacting back and forth via email. If I email a question, how long would you say is a reasonable amount of time for them to respond? I emailed someone (our dj) 6 days ago (tomorrow will be a week) and I'm just wondering if that seems normal?

If its any help, we booked this DJ through his "boss" who is the main DJ and "hires" out his other DJ's--- the "boss" has been super responsive and always gets back within 24-48 hours. He did say we should be contacting our hired DJ directly with certain questions, which is what I did.

6 days is pretty lengthy in my opinion. Try emailing again (maybe he didn't get it) and wait 24-48 business hours. If no response, then reach out to his responsive boss alerting him of your prior email, concerns, etc. I typically waited 48-72 business hours. Most vendors were exceptionally responsive in my experience.

If you are concerned about the response time, contact the "boss" and tell them. I think 6 days is too long, but then I'm a vendor/owner. It could be because of date being over a year away and possibly because you might not normally talk to the "hired out" DJ until closer to the date? Also keep in mind that weekends, including Fridays are probably devoted to performing services for active vendors. But yes, by Monday afternoon, jump on it!

I would email again (showing the history of the last correspondence) and copy the boss. That way you're reaching out again and the boss will see there's been a long lag time.

My vendors are always really good. My photographer didn't get back to me for 2 days (who usually responds the same day or next day) and he still sent me a follow up email saying he had received my question and would get back to me shortly as he was unable to answer all of my questions at that time (he was just busy, so it's okay, it wasn't urgent). I appreciated it because at least I knew he would get back to me. Still took a few more days but I think it's more professional when people at least respond.

I work in an office that's highly customer service geared. We do receive a high influx of emails so even if I cannot respond at the moment, I let them know I will look into it further and get back to them shortly. I have little tolerance for no response. I'd give the DJ a few more days but if he doesn't respond I would go back to the "boss" and inform him that you've been waiting __ days for a response. Hopefully he can either answer the question or maybe find a different DJ to hire out for your wedding.

Yeah that's a bit long... this is their job. Maybe not the only job they have, but their job nonetheless. Proper customer service includes response in a timely Manor. I would do what the PPS have said and either call or send the message again with a copy to the boss

I had a MUA I was interested in, but it always took her at least 5 days to respond. I reached out to a different one and within 3 hours she had responded. Long response times worry me.

Call. My email was bouncing for days, and my website contact form was down for almost a month. Call. Then, two to three days unless it's a weekend.

I would say 24-48 hours is normal. Anything longer than that concerns me. Communication is really important to me and my vendors have been really good with it so far. I cancelled a trial with a make up artist because she always took so long to respond. Even me emailing her to cancel took around 4-5 days for her to respond. I'm an anxious person and I know when it comes closer to the day of that would drive me crazy.

I am commissioning a portrait done from an Etsy artist. Got my mockup on Easter and the artist asked for feedback. I told her it was great. Haven't heard back since then. I emailed her a week ago asking if I could pick it up in a few weeks. No response. I emailed her today saying that if I don't hear back by Tuesday, I'll assume she no longer wants to do this piece and I'll buy from someone else. She lists her turnaround time for a completed piece as 5-7 days... which clearly isn't the case. You'd think vendors would want money so they'd respond to emails from clients.

I had this issue with my photographer. He was wonderful otherwise, but I would usually wait a week before I sent a 2nd email. We also texted some, so if I really needed him to get back to me, I would text him. I'm not an assertive person, but wedding planning kind of required me to be sometimes. (In a nice way.)

Thanks all! I'll definitely try a phone call or second email, but its helpful to know what all of your typical and expected wait times were. Thanks again!

I emailed my venue and waited 1 1/2 weeks for a response before I emailed again I was so frustrated. I made sure to ask if she was receiving my emails and she sent one back saying "well I received this one" and then answered my questions for the previous email.

I honestly feel 48-72 hours is good. Definitely nothing over a week. Just my opinion.

    Call him.

Right now, I'm switching my website to a new host. Website, contact form, and e-mail are all down! Usually, I get back to people immediately or within a couple of hours -- so this is driving me CRAZY!

I've noticed my MUA takes about week to respond to emails, but she always does respond eventually and, if I call, she always answers right away. Our photographer responds within 2 - 3 days, but he also told us he is not very good with emails and to give him call if he ever didn't respond (what with being a creative spirit and all).

I have accepted that some vendors just prefer to be reached by phone.
