Vendor Meals for the Band

Kelly, on March 16, 2022 at 11:55 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

I'm having a full big band, 21 people in total, perform at my reception. I was planning on feeding all of my vendors, but the band coordinator said not to worry about feeding them. It's not like they can just run out and get fast food because there's nothing close by the venue (they know this). I don't want to force them to eat, but I'm also concerned about having 21 extra meals if they don't eat. I wouldn't even know which meal option(s) to get because they didn't give dietary restrictions. Any suggestions for what I should do?

I would still give them a vendor meal and just let the coordinator know to give you any dietary restrictions for any of the performers. State that you insist.

I count my dj as a part of my wedding guest count that way he would get something to eat. My meals included fish chicken and veggie lasagna and he had a choice. They can when you and your guests eat. I do agree with Hannah that you would want to know what your options are for them and let choose if they would like to eat.

Vendor meals are cheaper but the same food as what guests are eating, which is why I'm making a distinction. I definitely want to make sure everyone gets fed! I just need to let my caterer know ahead of time how many of each meal to prepare because he's not brining 150 of each.

I actually would sit down with the band coordinator to discuss again. Maybe you can find out why he said not to include them for meals. Are they playing calm music during dinner so there isn't the same opportunity as a DJ? Or are they rotating out breaks and you can feed them then? Maybe they always prepare ahead and eat first? I'd get more info from the band coordinator before just counting them as 21 meals that may not get eaten.

They'll probably play through dinner, but there are 19 musicians. They can stagger breaks to eat whenever they want. You're right, I need to have a chat with the coordinator about why he said no. I have a feeling he was trying to be polite.

Oh ok. I didn’t know there was a difference. I I thought it was the same. I learned something new. Thank you teaching me something new. Then I agree go with the vendor meal and definitely work that with the caterer. I definitely wish you well on your wedding planning and may you a beautiful wedding.

Thanks! I see you had your wedding already, but I just wanted to be clear for anyone reading this. I'm having plated meals, though. I'm not sure how it works with buffets or family style.

We had a large live band (not quite as large as yours) and the band coordinator initially said the same thing, I'm assuming because he wanted to be polite. We ended up providing them with vendor meals from our caterer.
