Vendor Comments

Hey Vendors! Ever feel like you've got REALLY good advice for a bride but she's a newbie who decided to restrict vendor participation? Why don't you post it here and we brides who know how valuable your comments are will copy and past that information onto the original post (assuming you aren't just spamming your services). Just be sure to list the title of the discussion in your post here so we know where to provide your advice.

I don't think they are allowed to post anymore. One vendor said they tried and couldn't...not sure where that post is at.

Wow that sucks. Most of the vendors provided very good information and tips and help.

Debi, do you remember what previous discussions you wanted to add those comments? I'll copy and paste them over there with a comment that you wanted to share your tips.

Hi, southerngirl and other brides. I am a WeddingWire vendor and I definitely plan to start participating in WeddingWire's forums -- with helpful advice (not self-promoting sales pitches).

FYI, since June I have been regularly posting advice about wedding music and other wedding details from an experienced wedding DJ's perspective on my blog, Good Note DJ's Guide to Weddings. It's at http://goodnotedjs.blogspot.com -- and you can also access it directly from my WeddingWire storefront.

Many wedding vendors use blogs mostly to post nice photos of their last weekend's weddings and to plug other vendors. Mine is different. It's really intended to be a source of info, tips, and advice!

My latest post, by the way, is about why I recommend WeddingWire to my brides. In many ways, it's the best site both for wedding couples and wedding vendors!

    OK, here's the poop.

Vendors can post in already started threads, as long as the original poster does not "restrict vendor participation". If they do, the vendors cannot post a reply.

Vendors cannot start a thread in the Brides Forum

Each bride post used to have an indication about whether vendors could or could not post. WW has done away with the notice, so now vendors don't know if they can participate UNTIL they hit the POST COMMENT button.

Hey, I still see the "Vendors are allowed to participate" message- at the bottom of the initial post, the right side of the post-date.

    Hi Lois L.,

We are working on a way to inform vendors if they are "allowed" to comment before clicking on the posts themselves. Thank you for your input!

I'd love to put my 2 cents in as far as vendor advice:

I am a makeup artist and I really love what I do. I also love reccomending certain products to people and also offering tips. If anyone has any questions about which products are reccomended for wedding makeup or how to do something, I would be more than happy to respond. Just email me through wedding wire or privately contact me at mdjt at verizon dot net .

My biggest piece of advice is to work with your photographer to build your wedding day schedule, and do it in advance. Your memories of the day (photographs) can only be as good as what you allow your photographer to capture. Most couples gravitate towards a photojournalistic photography style, aka fly on the wall, but do not give up the formal photographs. There is an unrealistic expectation that you are going to get a bunch of stellar formal photos in 15 minutes. Put some thought into that, you'd be moving through your standard poses, one every minute, from getting everyone together, posed, no blinkers, to having the next group lined up. Not going to happen!

Think about having your formals done before the wedding. The old bad luck superstition is going back to days of arranged/forced marriages.

I'm happy there is a place for you to make general comments--I'll be . However what I was originally intending to do is give you a place to say "Hey, I wanted to respond to the discussions titles 'toasts' but vendors couldn't participate. Can one of the brides pass along the following advice to Ms.Smith909...." Does that make sense? That way we brides who love all the great vendor tips can informed new brides about how helpful you are and pass along your words of wisdom on the topic. Does that make sense? Yes, it's a way to get around the No vendors allowed posts while still preventing spammers from contributing which is what I think brides are trying to avoid by blocking vendors.

Sorry I got distracted. I'll be....continuing to post questions about makeup, DIY bouquets, song suggestions, etc. as those topics come up. Maybe I'll start a few of those now.
