Veils for a dress with a cape? photos or suggestions?

Megan, on May 15, 2019 at 2:05 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11

I finally picked my wedding dress. It took me months to choose one and now that I have, I am struggling to decide on a veil. My dress has off the shoulder sleeve like lace that flows into somewhat of a cape. I was given the advice to do a shoulder length veil (and I birdcage veil) with it but I am having trouble picturing it. Pictures would be wonderful to see!
Has anyone had a longer veil of a similar length with a cape on their dress? Or have any specific suggestions. I'm not a fan of the birdcage veils but I'm worried that may look best.

Why cant you take the dress with you when you try on veils??i can't see a birdcage veil with that dress but just my opinion..i see something longer honestly not shoulder length because then you are competing with the off the shoulder part of the dress for attention

    Hi Megan!

Wow, your dress is beautiful! I love the sleeves and the back.

An elbow length veil, or anything longer, may take from this beautiful detail on the back. If you want to wear a veil, and you’re not a fan of birdcage veils, a blusher length veil (to the shoulders) could work best with your dress.

I went on a Pinterest deep-dive for you and got the below inspo pics Smiley smile

Is there something specifically you don't like about birdcage veils? If it's netting, it is possible to get one with tulle, like in the picture below!

Here's some out-of-the-box suggestions that you don't see too much of. 1) a short mantilla veil or 2) a short (shorter than pictured) draped veil (can be styled in a bunch of different ways and lengths). 3) picking a beautiful hairstyle, and not having a veil at all!

I’d definitely go without a veil with your dress. Cape already acts as semi-veil in the back. I think adding another layer on top is unnecessary & might compete with the cape, especially because cape has lace details around the edges.

I think usually people either wear a veil or a cape. Unless you really really want a veil I don’t think you need one! It’ll just cover the beautiful cape and I personally think it would be a little redundant to have both. Maybe look into getting a larger hair piece

I personally would go without a veil with this dress. You don't want to take away from the cape.

I really wanted a veil, especially for my fiance' who liked the "unwrapping" effect.

I was hesitant to try on veils at a shop because I have a fear of getting head lice haha, maybe I will though.

I've just never liked birdcage veils, they just don't seem like a veil at all for me personally since they are so short.

Maybe I will try a blusher like suggested, thank you!

    I completely understand!

Yes, hopefully, a blusher may give you the desired 'unwrapping effect'.

You could always remove it for some photos from behind and the reception to show off that beautiful dress Smiley smile

If you’re having trouble picturing it, then try different veils on with the dress. It’s the only way you’re going to get an accurate visual for yourself.

I would go with a birdcage style or just flowers in your hair so that a longer veil isn’t competing with your cape. Even a shorter veil will look like you have double layers on your back.
