veil weights *DIY update

NLeo, on April 9, 2014 at 9:08 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 22

Anyone know where to find them or how to make them? The only ones I find are the david tutera pearl and they look big and expensive. I also get a few etsy results that are expensive and not cute. What is the weight part made of?

I have never heard of this! Sounds like a good idea for an outdoor wedding though (or outdoor photos if windy) Is that the purpose?

I've never heard of weights either, but my mom is adding little pearls to the lace flowers of my veil.

    I'm looking for one too.

I think most of who want veil weights are having an outdoor weddig. I'm getting married on a beach, and will have my hair down so the weights will help that happen Smiley smile

Bridal Boutiques sell them. Mine offers like 10 different kinds from rhinestones to pearls in all different sizes.

For what it's worth, I am wearing a 45" petal cut so I don't necessarily think I'll need weights, but the lady at the boutique where I bought my dress gave me the idea of just taking double stick tape, and putting a little piece of the front of each shoulder so your veil will stay in place while walking and for photos. I don't know how many people that will actually work for since i know a lot of women wear chapel or cathedral length, but it's just a thought.

Update/PSA- ive tried michaels, jo anns, hobby lobby, David's bridal, ebay, google, & etsy. The cheapest (only under $40) was Amazon with 6 for about $20. I might try to DIY. I read to take either small craft magnets & glue crystals, pearls, etc on or to sew on clear fishing weights.

I didn't even know what they were until my friend used them. Luckily, she is letting me borrow her cathedral length veil and weights. Yay! But she got them from savetheveil.com as well

You could use small magnets at the bottom. Get the tiny circular ones and paint them white/ivory.

ETA an even better idea-- magnetic earrings!

I also saw a bunch of cheap ones on amazon and eBay

I was so excited that I had got the supplies to DIY at Joanns for just over $7. Here's the finished product (two different thicknesses of .5" magnets, painted white, and rhinestones on each side). i then put them on my veil, 8" apart as i read somewhere, I was just about to take a picture for you all but then I decided to wave it around like the wind would and see how much resistance they gave....and very quickly they all snapped together into a big blob...you know...like magnets do! lol. Then as i tried to separate them again, they started falling off. EPIC FAIL! So... now i have $7 rhinestone magnets for my fridge (wont' FH be thrilled!). David Tutera.....here I come! Hopefully his behave better than mine.

Also, magnetic earrings are a great idea but I don't think they would have enough weight. Maybe for an outdoor ceremony elsewhere but I think my sea breeze will be too much for them to handle.
