Veil and cape?

I've wanted a bridal cape for a long time, and especially now since we're having a winter wedding. But FH wants me to wear a veil! I've wanted a bridal cape for a long time, and especially now since we're having a winter wedding. But FH wants me to wear a veil! Would there be any way a seamstress could could custom make (or alter) a cape veil? I can't find any pictures of anyone else having done that so I have no idea how it would work. Any ideas or should I just wear a veil and cape at different times - or wear a cape under the veil with the hood down? Obviously since I don't have a dress yet I can't actually buy a veil or cape yet, just preparing for when I do! (More inspiration pictures in comments)

I love the capes! I really wanted a winter wedding, but it didn't work out. Mrs. Faith, you look absolutely stunning.

@lindsay and @elizabeth thank you for that advice, I'll definitely remember that! Yikes wet dress...that is something to consider. Snow boots are a must though! And since I'm only inviting close family, they'll know way in advance. But maybe I'll also put some cute wording in the invites? And hand-warmers and blankets will be available? I think we can make it semi-comfortable for the 15-30 minutes I'm thinking it will last...I'll do everything I can think of to make it so. Small guest list = more of the budget goes to the details!

As for the veil and cape, there are so many options and things to think about when deciding! I get cold verrry easily but I LOVE the snow, so I've always just packed on the layers.

Just brainstorming here and I need to write down my thoughts: what if I wore a thick sweater under the cape and when it's time to walk I take the cape off and put the veil on. My dress will possibly have sleeves so that's two layers. Plus a scarf and gloves. OR I could leave the cape on under the veil with the hood down because that could work (picture a long veil flowing over a thick winter, almost medieval, cape with the hood down). Then when we kiss and exit maybe my MOH removes the veil IF it's quick and I pull the hood up?

The hood is my favorite part of a cape but I love that it goes over my shoulders and falls to the ground. If it came down to it and I could only choose one, I would go with the cape all the way!! Someone mentioned a blusher and I might look into that, I'm just really picky about veils - I don't want poofiness above my head and around my face.

That's to much work for a ceremony honestly. You're thinking to hard about trying to make this more dramatic quiet honestly- and you're going to be wrapped up in the moment- don't over complicated something where you're going to be distracted and excited and highly emotional.

I'd pick one and stick with it.

Are you talking about wearing a sweater over your dress?

That's what I read last night

    cape- veil sweater and gloves.

like- none of this is going to work when she's trying to ACTUALLY get married- like dial it back. LOL pick one thing and go with it. and ditch the sweater.

Yeah I've seen pictures of brides with sweaters. Why wouldn't that work?

I think it really depends on your dress.

Yeah, but you're talking about a sweater AND a cape. I feel like it should be one or the other. Having a sweater, a cape, AND a veil on top of that is just way too much.

Hey, Littlefoot. Sorry for the delay. Wedding just happened. Smiley surprise

Here's my cape. It was custom-made by my seamstress. She used silk organza and pieces of lace from my dress. I am in love, love, love with it.

    WIP = work in progress.

I decided not to use a veil afterall. The cape was already a statement piece on its own and flowed so beautiful behind me that I didn't think I needed the veil.

I am making a cape veil for my future daughter in law. Her wedding theme is Renaissance (Lord of the Rings). I am making it out of wedding tulle. I also got a pattern (simplicity) with the exact cape she wants. The only issue I have is the length of it. I am hoping to go to David's Bridal (that is where she got her dress) and see if I can find the dress and measure the length. It will be a tad longer in back. the dress does not have a long train so to speak. But there is a little length in the back. I'm a little excited to do this for her and it looks really simple. It probably will be the trimming and a little embroidery that will take up most of the time. LOL
