Veil and cape?

Littlefoot, on January 1, 2016 at 5:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

I've wanted a bridal cape for a long time, and especially now since we're having a winter wedding. But FH wants me to wear a veil! Would there be any way a seamstress could could custom make (or alter) a cape veil? I can't find any pictures of anyone else having done that so I have no idea how it would work. Any ideas or should I just wear a veil and cape at different times - or wear a cape under the veil with the hood down? Obviously since I don't have a dress yet I can't actually buy a veil or cape yet, just preparing for when I do! (More inspiration pictures in comments)

I think brides usually wear the veil indoors for the ceremony and the cape outdoors for photos. Are you planning to have an outdoor ceremony? If not, then you could just take the veil off and exchange it for the cape when it's time for outdoor photos.

I agree with Elizabeth - Cape outside and for photos, and veil for ceremony/inside and photos. Would that work?

See that would be perfect if I was having an indoor ceremony. But I'm more than likely having an outdoor ceremony so that's why I'm so confused!

What if I wore a veil over a hood-less sheer cape, and make the cape attach to the lining of a thicker warm cape with a hood? Then when I take the veil off, I can put the warm cape on over the sheer one? This sounds complicated lol but it could work, right? Or maybe I might as well wear the thick cape....

Why not ask your consultant when you go dress shopping? She's hopefully been in the business for a while and had a lot of different types of requests. She would also know what is feasible as far as combining a cape and a veil.

What if you wore a veil for just the ceremony part and wore the cape for pictures, the reception, etc?

Where are you getting married that you're able to have an outdoor ceremony in February? Florida, hopefully?

I wore my veil for the ceremony, and my cape for the reception and after.

Margaret thank you for the suggestions, I'll definitely do that! And if there's no way to wear them both, I'll wear them separately like you said Smiley smile

Elizabeth lol! I want to get married in the snow and have an indoor reception. The date isn't set in stone, but having our ceremony outdoors in the snow is definitely happening Smiley tongue ceremonies are usually really short anyway

Mrs. faith I saw that I love your cape!! I might just do that

It's my cape inspiration. Smiley smile

I'm having an indoor ceremony. The plan, so far, is to wear the cape up until I walk. Then someone (maybe Dad?) takes the cape off me. The veil would either already be on or my wedding planner will place it on me. The plan is a WIP. I will likely wear it during the entrance into the reception, too. Smiley laugh

Do you want the cape bc it is long or because of the hood? I mean long veil are pretty much capes.

I was going to wear an empire scarf. Which acts like hood and my would be veil. But them I bought a different dress and it doesn't work. Bonus... Totally reusable for daily life.

Some things to consider with getting married in the snow: Even if your ceremony is short, there is still the issue of guest comfort, especially with little children and the elderly. Also, snow portraits are beautiful, but wet gowns are not exactly fun! Consider wearing heavy duty boots under your dress. The bride in the portrait below wore cowgirl boots, but her dress was definitely wet around the bottom by the time her portraits were done.

Also, as far as the cape/veil is concerned, they aren't usually worn at the same time. If you are getting married in the snow, ditch the veil so you don't freeze! Otherwise I would say veil for the ceremony and the cape for pictures/reception.

What about a smaller blusher style veil to go with the cape? I think after the ceremony you can take off the veil.

@Littlefoot I LOVE that you want to get married in the snow because in a perfect world, so would I. It's so rare to meet someone who loves the snow that much. That said, please make sure you inform your guests that the ceremony is outdoors. I honestly would skip an outdoor ceremony for all but my family or closest friends in July or August in a warm climate, so I imagine that as miserable as I'll be outdoors in those months, that's how miserable some guests will be outdoors in February.

I think you should ditch the veil (or pack it just for indoor photos) and wear the cape for the ceremony. Instead of taking it off you, your dad can lower the hood so it's not on your head when you say your vows.

@Faith I will never get tired of seeing that gorgeous photo of you!
