Hello, i am getting married in June 2018 and i`m already thinking about the catering (maybe too early?). There is only one problem: My 80 guests almost all have some special food requirements. Some are on a diet, some are vegan, some vegetarian and some are Jewish and others are Muslims. I thought about a vegetarian catering and a few vegan dishes so all could eat together, but i`m still looking for more ideas. So here my main Question: What was the best vegetarian food you had at a wedding? Sorry for my English ( i am German ). I really appreciate your suggestions.

The veggie options for my wedding will be eggplant Parmesan(my fave!) and cheese tortellini.

At other weddings, I've had some good risotto, although at most weddings, their vegetarian option is just a pile of steamed vegetables. Or they don't have an option at all and I just eat side dishes.

We are having paella. A meat option and a vegetarian option. The veggie option is also vegan.

We have a vegan on our very small guest list, and the only vegan option listed at the restaurant is a spicy black bean soup. (Which is superb) I'll be chatting with the friend and the restaurant closer to the time to make sure that's going to work or see if they can make up a pasta dish or something.

Wow, thank you all so much for your nice and tasty ideas! And also thanks for the warnings- I am going to be careful with the alcohol in the food and chicken broth, and add some protein..

All your suggestions sounded so yummy, I got hungry while reading. I am heading out tomorrow, add your suggestions to mine and present it to the chef. They do usually cook meat dishes for weddings, but the chef cooks really well so I trust him (and check on it soon Smiley smile).

    Thank you all!

Do you have a venue/caterer yet? If so, you need to ask them what they offer.

I agree with Svetlana, I loooove portobello mushrooms! I eat meat but I would choose a stuffed portobello over a chicken dish ANY day. If that's an option I would do it without dairy to accommodate both vegans and vegetarians. Indian food is a great option too, but many of the curries do have cream or cheese involved. Also, I know this sounds silly, but I would just double check that your caterer doesn't use butter on the vegan dishes. It's something that's so easily overlooked!

As our vegetarian option we will be offering butternut squash raviolis, plus mixed fall vegetables as a side. My FH and I aren't going out of our way to offer vegan options.

In regards to gluten free options, everything on our menu, except the ravioli's and bread are gluten free. Our caterer said that if fresh ingredients are being used, and nothing is breaded most food choices (proteins) should be gluten free.

Pasta bar, with optional meat additions plus veggies (peppers, onions, etc) and mushrooms?

That's what we're doing, as we also have a ton of special diets to accommodate. We're also doing three pastas- one is gluten free

That is awesome! We are vegetarian going on vegan so completely supportive of this. Our wedding will be the first one I have been to that has that dietary restriction though. Following.

Mexican too. FH is vegan and we are going to a Mexican restaurant for our reception. It caters specifically for vegan, vegetarian, and GF.

You also need to be aware that many many prepared sauces have gluten in them, so that is something to be aware of. @JJ, yes corn tortillas are gluten free.

Well it has been a while ( event is 3 hours away). For anyone who is interested in it, i found some delicious dishes that all my friends could enjoy. I incorporated lots of your advice and i am really happy about the suggestions! Soo here the list :

    We make food stations.

First we`ll have a salad station and next to it a table with bread and different cheeses and dips and fresh cut veggies plus grilled artichokes, mushrooms and tomatoes ( with or without filling).Next to it a Mediterranean table with quiche and potato gratin bites asparagus risotto and pasta ( one 4 cheese sauce and one vegan bolognese and one primavera sauce). Then we have Panir tikka masalla ( amazing Indian dish with cheese) and vegetable matsaman curry ( Thai ) as the vegan alternative. Could not get anything Mexican Smiley sad . On the last table we`ll have Fake Steak and schnitzel and curry sausages ( all are Vegan ) and chips. In order for it to be kosher and appropriate for Muslims, we will not have any meat and no alcohol in the food. I do not need to pay for the event or the flowers and my complete attire costed only 200 , so i thought i `ll spent all the money on the food... Just in case anyone is worried that the meat lovers are going to be upset, they will be fine. I asked before if they would like to have meat at an other wedding and they actually preferred the vegetarian alternative there. And they are a small minority in my wedding who is very open to vegetarianism. Hope it sounds tasty . If anyone sees some flaws in my ideas, tell me please.
