I can see both sides of this argument. We're not serving pork because it's against FH's religion. I would never ask him to serve it just because our guests like it because I know he believes very strongly against eating pork. But at the same time, while I don't eat meat (just seafood), I still plan on serving it. Most of my guests eat meat and I know, as a mostly-veg, how much it sucks to not have anything to eat at a wedding or party. (Why do you have to put meat in my VEGETABLES. Why.)

Well, your biggest hurtle will be finding a vegan baker that specializes in wedding cakes. The availability of that depends on where you live. When I was engaged before (thank god I did not get married!) I lived in a very vegan friendly city, and so this was really easy.

I suggest that you ask about allergies. Also, that you think about what you ate when you first went vegan. Incorporate those foods into the reception. Also if it is going to be completely vegan, find some foods that don't have any "weird" ingredients such as fake dairy/meat, tempeh, tofu etc. In other words find foods that are purely grains and vegetables/legumes to put into your meal, because not everyone is comfortable with mock meats.

Also, you can buy a lot second hand! Or rent what you do not want to buy. You can rent table clothes, buy a used dress, use washable products such as cloth napkins at the table, have an indoor wedding (less chance of litter) or a really good clean up crew, I could go on... there are endless ways to be eco friendly, and I am sure you will think of many of them yourself as you plan!

@Alyssachu, I know vegans who would not and avoid taking people out for dinner/meals for that reason.

"Just out of curiousity- @OP- if you took your non-vegan best friend out to dinner for her birthday, would you not pay for it if she ordered meat or a salad with cheese in it or something?"

I knew someone in college who would not pay for meat for anyone, so he had people over for a meal he prepared at home for celebrations he wanted to host. People always knew ahead of time it would be a vegan meal.

I know I'm late to the game, but I'm going to weigh in anyways. I have several family members and friends that are vegan and vegetarian, I'm working extra hard with my caterer to come up with a menu that's not just bland pasta and veggies because I care about my guest and want to host them properly. My fsil is vegan, and has taken me to several vegan restaurants that she claims is very good vegan food. I wouldn't say it was bad, but I wouldn't serve it at a wedding. My fsil also had meat at her wedding, because she wanted to host her guest properly. If you're going to have an all vegan wedding, I would suggest letting your guests know so they can fill up beforehand.
