I would serve a small vegan cake and a larger cake for the other guests. You should accomodate the majority of the guests also.

I wouldn't have a problem with vegan cake as long as it tasted good.

I don't know if we have any room in the budget for two cakes.

No it's not bad etiquette at all. It's still cake! It might be more expensive, though. If it was me, I would do a small vegan cake and a regular cake. Keep in mind, some people who are not vegan may want to try the vegan cake if you don't have servers passing them out to the specific guests that are vegan. You would need to make sure somehow that all of your vegan guests get a slice of the vegan cake.

How many guests are you having? Can you get them cupcakes and do a regular cake?

I've had many vegan desserts, including vegan cake, and couldn't tell the difference. If it's not in your budget to have 2 cakes, I think it's fine to only have the vegan cake.

Honestly, it's all going to taste like cake. It's not like non-vegans eating vegan cake is against their morals. My FH, MOH, Best Gal, and I tried some of our cupcakery's vegan flavors along side the traditionals and decided to do one of our four flavors all vegan because it was delicious. None of us are vegan. I would just double check if they use almond milk or something that would make it a nut allergy problem!

Nope! After all, it still tastes like cake and it's most likely way more healthy! I'd eat it for sure!

What if the vegan cake was just a small sheet cake? That shouldn't be too expensive.

I am a baker and only make vegan cakes because I think they taste better and a more moist. To answer your question, I don't think that would break an etiquette rule.

I agree with PPs, I've had some really amazing vegan cake (on multiple occasions in different flavors even) that most people would never guess had anything different about it than any other cake, if you have a good baker I think you'd be totally fine to serve only the vegan cake!

It's not rude to get a vegan cake. I make a lot of my personal cakes vegan, because I run out of eggs like crazy. In the end, as long as your guests have cake and it tastes decent, they will be happy.

I served my vegan guests a special vegan cake and everyone who wasnt vegan was served regular cake. Unfortunately, I am intolerant to soy and a lot of vegan cakes use soy as a substitute. If I wasn't aware the cake was vegan and ate it, I wouldn't be happy. Not that they don't taste great because they do, but please please at least label or let your guests know that the cake is vegan. Knowing this, I would safely decline cake Smiley smile

Are you vegan? If so, get the vegan cake and think nothing of it - especially if you're offering non-vegan dishes to your guests.

i'm sure most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference between vegan vs non-vegan cake. As a non-vegan I could care less what kind of cake I'm served. Cake is cake, I just want some!

    No!

I personally did not want a cake but it was important to my Fiance to have a "cake cutting". Our caterer makes this amazing gluten free chocolate cake. I changed my thoughts on cake for sure. So we are having a gluten free wedding cake.

Also, we are doing a DIY (me and my future Mother-In-Law) dessert table. I plan to incorporate several gluten free options. We only have 2 gluten free guests total but the dessert options for gluten free are so amazing. So I figure we can have them so that these 2 guests have more options and everyone else won't even know the difference.

Also... I have been to vegan restaurants and eaten my share (and other peoples share) of vegan dessert and they can be incredible. So as long as the cake is good, who cares if it is vegan or full of cheese?!

Just do a taste test to make sure it tastes good, as long as it does there is nothing wrong serving a vegan cake.

As long as it tastes good, it is thoughtful to provide a cake that everyone can eat
