I went to the post office today to weigh my invitations. She informs me that the envelopes are considered a large size and therefore the postage will be $1.19. I never go to the post office so I really didn't know it worked like that. I assumed it was always based on weight. So anyway, I left...

So anyway, I left thinking they sold special stamps like that so I could buy one or two that would equal to exactly that price. I didn't see anything online. I know I can go back to the post office but I figured I'd ask you guys first if you have ever dealt with this.

Do I just have to buy 3 stamps per invitation ?

@ thenagyweds - just curious why your RSVP would be so large?

Of those who are experiencing the "Large Envelope" issue, where did you get your invitations, and were you aware of the size before you ordered them?

Square invitations always cost about 20 cents extra, but most invitations are designed to fit standard envelope sizes. Anything over 6x9 is ridiculous for postage.

Zazzle has $1.19 custom stamps. You *could* order these, they have 15% off site wide right now. Not that I want to advocate for spending more money on this. But if you want ONE stamp - this would be your best option.

I also used the 70 cent stamp. My post office had a few wedding themed stamps to choose from. I think it depends on what each branch has in stock at the time. Ultimately, nobody will care what the stamp is (or probably even notice).

I don't care about how many stamps are on the invitations but it just seems stupid so have three stamps when I only need $1.19 in postage - not 3 stamps worth.

When I went to the usps website nothing but regular stamps popped up but I found others when I viewed the full site rather than just the mobile site. I'll go with a 70 cent stamp and a regular one to get to my $1.19.

I just never heard of anything costing more to mail because of the size. I thought it was always just based on weight. My invitations are a tiny bit over to be considered the large envelope.

@MizzzCara - did anyone notify you of the additional postage requirement before placing your order? (I am just curious, as a vendor) It is up to your provider to make sure you as the customer are aware of this -- Most of us try to warn our customers before they make the commitment. Big box companies and online stores sometimes make those details less noticable. I think that is shady, IMHO and I would like to be able to warn others to look closer at the item descriptions before ordering their invitations, or anything that is expected to be mailed.
