USPS/Stamp Question

MizzzCara, on February 22, 2017 at 7:08 PM Posted in Planning 0 25

I went to the post office today to weigh my invitations. She informs me that the envelopes are considered a large size and therefore the postage will be $1.19. I never go to the post office so I really didn't know it worked like that. I assumed it was always based on weight.

So anyway, I left thinking they sold special stamps like that so I could buy one or two that would equal to exactly that price. I didn't see anything online. I know I can go back to the post office but I figured I'd ask you guys first if you have ever dealt with this.

Do I just have to buy 3 stamps per invitation ?

You can do that, stamps are sold in different postage but not 1 that will equal that exactly. I feel for you, my STD's were square and requires more postage. Apparently anything that won't fit through the standard sorter, whether because of size or weight, requires extra.

Postage will depend on all kinds of things: size, weight, dimensions, etc.

As far as I know, you would have to buy 3 stamps. I don't know of any other options.

Are your invites square? If so this is why and the answer is yes. Are they 5x7? If so the answer is no and you'll only need 2 stamps.

It was a tiny bit over to be considered a large envelope. They aren't that heavy. I was wondering if I should just buy new envelopes for them because they are a little too big for the invitations anyway.

I don't see any other stamps online though.

I'm sorry, I'm lost and I feel really dumb.

I had the same issue. The workers at the post office was debating whether my invitations were considered a large envelope or a small package. $1.19 for envelope price and $2.59 for a small package. I almost died. I have 327 ppl on my guest list. Finally, a supervisor said it was a large envelope. They gave me the option of stamps to purchase. One was the word love, the other was a butterfly. 2 days later, a guest of mine texted that she loved my invitation but that she was charged because I didn't have enough postage on it. I was mortified!!!! No other guests has mentioned this, so I'm hoping it was an isolated prick at her local post office that charged her.

I had square invites. Because of this I needed one stamp that was for non-machinable processing and one regular. My responses cards needed two regular stamps.

My postage guy told me it was not by weight but purely by the size.

Both were considered a large envelope.

Wedding invites are tricky. I had to pay 60 cents to get my sisters and she was very upset. Her post office told her one thing and then other post offices made recipient pay more and some just kicked them back to her and some went out fine. I hope you can get it all worked out. If the envelopes are big try a smaller one but not to small you don't want the edges ripping while in transit. Edited cause words are not my friend atm neither is autocorrect

So I did some digging and I found stamps worth .70. They weren't coming up on my mobile site for the usps for some reason but I finally found some. The only cute one is the butterfly like someone mentioned. So I guess I will have to use that one with a regular stamp and get over it. At least I won't have extra postage on there that's not necessary. Ha thanks everyone!

I suggest going to Costco or Sams club they sale them by 100 for $50 I believe and you would save so much more money than at the post office

Costco and sams club are the same prices. Stores can't pick and choose the price of stamps. Each regular stamp is .49. That's nationwide. So even at the post office 100 stamps would be $50.

At first I was all upset about having to use more than one stamp. Thinking that the envelope was going to look ugly. Hahaha. But in reality no one is going to care what stamp design you use. I used a butterfly and one that said celebrate because at the time it's all they had at the post office. Once I figured out that my return envelopes might also cost more the post office only had American flags. No one is going to pay that close attention to the stamps.

The post office is right. My invitations, fortunately, only required one stamp. My response cards, though small, were too small to be considered a postcard, so still required a regular post stamp. It's probably best to go back to the post office to get help with the stamps so that you don't go over. You'll also be able to pick stamps that go along with your theme or colors better that way. It'll be like creating a little gallery of stamps on your envelope.

I had to use the 70 cent stamps, which cover postage weight up to 2 ounces. I found wedding cake and wedding flower 2 oz stamps on Amazon!

I need the 70 cent stamps as well and they're all ugly. The nice ones on amazon with wedding theme are ridiculously overpriced. So frustrating. The post office needs a better selection!
