Using my mom's dress after divorce

FutureMrsMonty, on January 27, 2017 at 8:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Long story short my mom and my father divorced when I was about a year and a half old and he and I have never had a relationship. I last saw him when I was 8 (I'm almost 31 now) and last I heard, he's somewhere in Georgia. Anyway, my mom cut off all the lace from her wedding dress for me to use to wrap my bouquet in. Would it be bad luck or weird in any way to use my mom's dress knowing that they had a nasty divorce and has been MIA my whole life?

    I think if you want to use it, you should. I'm not superstitious, though!

    At the end of the day, it's still your mom's wedding dress, it would be an honor to re purpose it and wear it on your special day

    I believe the special thing to remember in this is that your mom is here and able to pass something down to you as something old. You can start a tradition. Im sure with her experience she can offer some insight. So all in all I dont see the problem.

    I'd like to because my mom loved that dress and I like the idea.

    While I'm a little superstitious, I know a piece of fabric isn't going to ruin my marriage.

    I'm shocked she still had the dress. That's something I would have tossed years ago.

    I think it's a cool idea. It represents your relationship with your mom.

    @going, I know, right?!

    My issue is not wanting anything about him there. When I should just remember that that was HER dress. That she loved. The fact that she married him in it is a minor detail.
