Ushers? Can groomsmen handle?

Rachey, on May 5, 2014 at 8:59 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

I'm having a beach wedding of about 122. We have four groomsman. Is it typical that they would seat people? Or should I ask my other brother and a cousin to do this? How many ushers do I need? And do I need an attendant to hand out my program fans? Or can people just take one from the box? Starting to feel the pressure. June 6 is coming up quick! Thanks!

My groomsmen were the ushers for my wedding. It worked out perfectly fine. I had 160 people and 4 groomsmen.

We had 2 friends of mine who were ushers. We had 135 people at our wedding. You can do it either way.

Is a groomsmen or your brother or cousin going to escort important people i.e. your mom, grandparents to their seat? Might want to think about this.

I think that your four groomsmen should be able to handle seating guests. I've only been to a few wedding where there were ushers in addition to groomsmen and they were able to seat the guests just fine. I would suggest having someone to hand out the fans-- people are sometimes timid as to what they should or should not take. Just over one month away!!! Exciting Smiley smile

I think having the groomsmen seat the guests is fine. You can also ask those other guys for help if you want though.

I say just have people take their own program fans. Have a sign that says "please take one" and you will be fine.

Thanks! It's a very short aisle also so it shouldn't take them any time at all to seat. Should best man seat the parents? My older brother is in the wedding party but he's also walking me down the aisle, so I don't know if he can do both. Is he supposed to stay behind with me? Or just come and get me? haha, I guess this is why we're having a rehearsal.

We had a BM and no groomsmen, so we had 2 ushers to seat the guests.

We're planning to ask our 3 groomsmen to help with the 120 people. My little cousin will help hand out programs (assuming I make some).

In all the weddings I've attended the groomsman have also helped usher. We are having one usher for our wedding and maybe a few groomsman to help. The only reason we are having the one usher is that FH's mom really wants her teenage grandson (my FH nephew) involved in the wedding some how and this seemed the best way.
