Updated:Engagement Pictures in the freezing cold :/

TaMorey, on January 9, 2016 at 8:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Ladies, has anyone done an outdoor winter photo shoot? We planned 2 weeks ago for our Engagement shoot, but now the weather is reading it that there will be 1-3 inches of snow by the time we are scheduled and feel like 2 degrees. I'm excited about the snow, it can make for awesome shots, but to be that cold... I have ideas about how I can make my outfit work, but just in general, any advise?

If you can find some and your clothing isn't too tight for it, wear, long underwear and Marino wool socks. If you happen to have an Eddie Bauer outlet near you, that's where I got my long undies. I've sweated in them before, lol... Those and super warm socks can make a huge difference.

As someone who just got married and did outdoor photos in the snow I can tell you that you can make it work. Wear warm clothes. Like Caroline said any sort of underarmer is amazing. For our photos all the girls and myself had stoles to keep us warm. Have some tea, coffee, or hot chocolate sitting in the car and someone to either keep the car running or to turn it on when they see you coming. You can have a quick warm up and go back out if you want.

Remember that boots, coats, and scarves can be cute. Don't be afraid to dress for winter!

I loooove my cuddleduds! I have some of the black fleece tops with the thumb holes in the sleeves, and they look awesome with a couple of short sleeved tunic sweaters I have, underneath. I find any excuse to wear them in the winter!

Layers, warm clothing, and a thermos of hot chocolate!

Warm thoughts. We did ours in March last year because we won a free session. It was freezing and windy that day. Thankfully no snow, but I think the wind chill made it feel around 5-10 degrees. We made it fun; walked up stairs, jumped in place, only took coats off when the shot called for it. Photographer also said not to worry abut red noses and cheeks because she would fix them if they were too bright/noticeable. They turned out great!

Merino wool. If you're wearing pants, head to REI or another sports store and get a top and bottom underlayer. Also maybe get some air-activated hot packs to hold onto in between shots. Bring cute accessories like a hat and scarf, gloves...I love the thermos of hot drink idea.

I'll be doing the same in 2 weeks!

Thanks ladies, it's tomorrow, I have the warm under things and yes we'll keep the car runnin, coffee and cocoa in a thermos. I'm sure it will look great with fresh snow, my photographer is also excited. We are taking atleast one picture with the puppy so he'll be all bundled in his sweater and coat.

We are doing ours in the winter too but in an indoor garden. It's beautiful and this way we can include nature in our photos, along with some cold photos outdoors as well. Maybe you can find something similar nearby?

I'm totally jealous. We scheduled our photo shoot for mid-December in hopes that there would be some snow on the ground and there wasn't. Instead, we had bare trees, cold weather, and gray skies.

At such last minute I don't know of any inside locations we could shoot at, my last ditch attempt may be the library if it's open, but I'm really hoping we'll be okay outside.

Soooooo. Waiting to hear from my photographer if we are still a go. She lives a leeks over 30 minutes away and the roads are super slick and she's pregnant (due in March, bless her heart). So now it's a waiting game.

So she is still super excited and we decided we will go and do some pictures at the venue, then come back to the house and warm up then do pictures in our back yard (pictures above) and with our mini christmas tree, maybe even light the fire pit. I am so much more excited now Smiley smile

    Light the pit fire!!!!

I would try to stay away from anything that looks too holiday like a done up Christmas tree (but that is my opinion).
