Update on venue that cancelled all weddings and reschedule plans - round 5.

Laura, on June 9, 2020 at 11:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

April 4 -85 people
May 2nd -85 people
June 27 - 85 people
August 8 - 50 people
Sept 24 -5 people
... now Sept 28th with 5 people.

Yes, my venue cancelled on me with only a 5 person wedding.

Yesterday my venue abruptly cancelled all weddings. It has been in operation for 30 years and I adore those who work at the venue. The letter I received was polite, but it did state that weddings being what they are, they will only open when unmasked weddings are allowed. *Note: Any bride not practicing social distancing and masks risks that venue being closed for those who follow you. The business can't take the risk and allowing a mask free event is exactly that. Vendors are getting tired of saying no and hoping that a bride honors the guidelines. If they believe that you won't follow the guidelines - they will cancel more than just your wedding. They will cancel weddings like mine. Please stop with the anti-mask but it's my wedding argument. Wear masks so that we can all get married. And remember public places can be shut down too. Please, please, follow the guidelines.

Spoke to FH after we received the note. We're trying to reschedule for a public park. We are hoping the guys can still get tuxes or suits - we have an order at MW. And I'm hoping to find a dress that doesn't need alterations. Yes, a wedding dress without alterations. The good news is that I am an off the rack size. I'm looking at high low dresses so I can avoid the hem. The photographer and florist have agreed to a penalty free switch - we moved the date by a few days (the 28th of Sept is our last stand).

I ordered the pink high low yesterday from Nordstrom's. I'll order the high low from DB today. I just have to figure out white or ivory. I look better in white but my accessories are in ivory (veil and shoes) because my "the one" dress that I can't wear (too costly alterations and not for an outside venue) is ivory. I prefer white... It's just a choice to be redone like all the other choices in this adventure.

I, though, cannot keep doing this. It's affecting me too much to be hopeful and then have it crash down. Hopefully, I'm more stubborn than the virus and we'll make this happen.

I'm so very sorry. I would be on the floor crying with I were in your situation. I think a park or the beach (if you happen to live near the beach) would be two very good options for having your ceremony. I've heard that Men's Warehouse isn't open or responding to people so I would probably look for another option. I've heard that Black Tux or Generation Tux, which are both online options that offer try at home before you buy, are good choices. I sure hope with everything you have been through that you are able to find the perfect solution because you definitely deserve it.

I would have given up by now - I commend your tenacity. I'm sure it will all come together beautifully, and at least you'll be relieved that you can stop re-planning it!

I would try to find another option other than Men's Wearhouse. I read an article last night that stated that they are considering filing for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. I believe this is similar to what David's Bridal did a few years ago. But some of the stores are likely to close if that is the case, just as they did with David's.

I'm so sorry.... I've followed your story and know you've been through more than your share of disappointments. I truly hope you persevere and have a lovely wedding! Daughter and SIL were VERY happy with their experience with the Black Tux for the men's suits. They were married 18 months ago, so it may not be the same experience in Covid-times, but even when things weren't "quite right" Black Tux took care of the necessary replacements ASAP. Good luck! (SIL has had terrible experiences in the best of times with MW....) Smiley heart

I'm doing better today. I ordered 2 hi low dresses so that I can choose one. At this point, things will be what they will be... Trying to find the upside. And figure out how to do my own hair and makeup... And nails... And... Lol
