Unwanted bra exposure

Bella, on September 25, 2013 at 10:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 30

My rehearsal dinner dress has a lace back. The sales lady told me I could wear it braless (which, as a 34dd, I haven't done in 10 years!). The more I try to go braless, the less comfortable I am. If I do wear a bra, it is hard to keep it unnoticeable.

I have tried four bra styles so far and they all show a little, even the nude/skin colored ones. Adhesive bras do little or nothing to support. Is there some way to wear an actual bra but keep it from showing at the same time?

    Try NuBra. It sticks on.

Thanks. I should have mentioned that I tried an adhesive bra (not a NuBra but a different kind)...it doesn't really provide much in the way of support. I got the largest cup size I could find and it still seemed small.

They make bras with clear straps....would that be a possibility?

Hmm. I hadn't thought about that. I guess my first thought is maybe. In addition to the shoulder straps, the back strap would need to be clear too. And I have never seen a bra like that.

Can you do a strapless bra ok? If so you could get one of those low back bras. They cut low enough to where it should be lower than your dress. I'd post a picture, but I'm on my phone. You could google it to understand what I'm talking about, if you don't already.

You could also ask your tailor to sew in cups to the front. That's what I think I'm going to do. I'm not sure what the support would be like, but you could definitely ask.

SA - I remember buying some at Walmart about 10 years ago. (I'm on the east coast, but I mean, it's walmart....It's all the same, right?) I hope they have improved since I bought mine...It was terribly uncomfortable! I think I bought mine for a dance recital/competition.

You can try those sticky boob covers, I got some on Amazon for $24 last year and they work great. They are also reusable.

My sister used those "sticky boob covers" for her prom dress. She's like a 32B though, so maybe it's almost the same as going braless.

Everybody's reponses are really helpful. I haven't yet been able to find a clear strap bra in a 34DD/F but I am still looking. I found two possibilities on the Bare Necessities site. Any thoughts about what might be best?

The second one you posted looks like it goes down lower, so I think that one would work better than the first.

I agree that it looks lower in the back. But I don't think it can be worn strapless, unlike the first one. The website doesn't say for certain.

Well in that case I would go with the top one. Save you the hassle of having to return it if it can't be strapless and/or being changed to clear straps.

That is a really cute dress. I just stood up in a wedding where the back of the bridesmaids dress was cut in a low v shape similar to that dress. The seamstress sewed little loops in the back that I just hooked my bra through. I wore a strapless bra. I'm a 40DD and I was worried about having a really low back and if hooking the bra through a loop that low would hold me up in front, but it did. I would recommend having a seamstress (or if you can sew) just sew a loop or two down in the part of the dress without the lace. But make sure whatever bra you get, for whatever you decide to do, make sure it has a rubber/silicone strip in the band to prevent slippage.

That sales lady just wanted to sell you a dress, I cannot believe she told you that you could go without a bra!!!

Anyway, I agree with Alysa, or with the adding cups to the dress, though I've seen some cups added in and they don't always provide support because the support comes from the bra band, not the cups.

Also, you can have a seamstress or tailor add in a nude fabric panel under the lace so you can just wear a normal bra and still have the illusion of the gown.
