Me and my S.O found the perfect wedding venue but the dates were filling up QUICK! I knew he was going to propose to me cause we created my ring together, so we got the wedding venue before being officially “engaged” 😂 We didnt tell anyone tho, only our parents cause my dad is paying for it.
Please tell me Im not the only one whose done this?

Nope ur not alone. We started planning and set a date about 3 months before he actually got down on 1 knee with my ring. We had already booked our photographer, found my dream dress and toured venues.

If dates are filling quickly I would book ASAP! But I almost wish I would have known prior to getting a 20 second recognition of what was happening at the moment.

We started touring venues months before he proposed. He held onto my ring for 6 months before he actually asked....by then we had our venue picked and my dress purchased.

As far as I'm concerned, you're engaged as soon as the two of you have agreed to be married. If you want to wait to announce it until you've got the ring, fine. But a ring it not a necessity--my wife and I agreed not to have engagement rings at all. So starting wedding planning after you have agreed to be married, but before you have a ring, isn't silly at all.

We didn't get the venue pre-engagement, but I did get my dress! Happened across someone selling the exact dress I'd had bookmarked for more than a year, completely unaltered, one size larger than I am, worn once for a courthouse wedding, for half the price! I felt ridiculous thinking about getting it, so I talked to my sister and all my friends and eventually FH about it. He was the one that told me it would be crazy NOT to get it. This was only a couple months before he asked and everyone knew it was coming soon, lol.

You’re not alone!! We’ve discussed getting married before he proposed, we found our venue in August and officially got engaged in September

We first saw our venue while we were in vacation right after we started dating, but we started the process of booking it seven months before we got engaged because we knew it was coming, just saving for the ring, and we had a very unique wedding date and venue. Halloween 2020 at the Edgar Allan Poe Museum. We knew we needed to jump on the venue fast because it's a museum and they do more than just weddings.

I helped design my ring as well! We started poking around at venues and I even went to a bridal show before we were technically engaged - he held onto the ring for an extra 6 months before proposing so I actually was surprised haha. I think starting to plan makes total sense, especially when you find vendors you love.

Yes. this. 100% When we announced our engagement a few people were (not rudely) like "well yea duh we all knew you two were going to get married" Smiley smile

You're right, as soon as youre talking marriage you've agreed to that commitment.

What matters is that you got the venue and date you wanted! What is your venue like?

We booked our venue last June and are officially getting engaged TODAY, just over 100 days before our wedding. Oops!

When we toured venues in summer 2018, only four of the ten we saw had our September 2019 date available.

I had a list of venues I started emailing before we announced. It's not unusual.
