Unity Wine Ceremony Glass Set???

Nik_McAwesomepants, on June 20, 2011 at 10:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 15

Soo to my utter surprise, DH has decided he wants to do a unity wine ceremony instead of a candle. I didn't really want to do a candle to begin with and I left the unity options up to him. I was running down the list "Candle, sand, hand, wine.." and he immediately said "WINE!" Of course this could be due to our low-key alcoholism :-P (I kid, I kid)

ANYWHO, I was wondering if there is such a thing as a "kit" for this. You know how you can buy a unity candle with the two skinny candles and whatnot, can you buy a unity wine set with the two individual glasses and the one big one??

My FH and I will be doing the wine ceremony. We will purchase 2 bottles of wine (1 red and 1 white) which we will pour into a decanter then into a glass and then both will drink from this glass. We just went to a store that sells nice crystal and purchased the decanter and 2 glasses so we would have the entire set after the wedding.

Thanks! I think we need 2 carafes and then 1 bigger, nicer cup thingie to mix the two wines in (the cup we'll drink from)

@Glenda, I think that's the same set up we're doing.

1 Glass or carafe (sweet) white

1 Glass or carafe (bitter) red

1 Bigger, hopefully engraved glass that we'll both drink from

I know we can get this from a regular store but I would like the glass we both drink from to be engraved or something. If you have any idea where I can engrave a big ass wine glass (God, i don't know any of the correct terms lol) that would be great.

I have also seen the wine bottles as a guest book. People sign a bottle or two depnding on how many guest you have with a silver sharpie. Then you drink the wine on your one year anniversary or another special date. It would be a nice addition to the wine ceremony.

2 bottles of wine? Oh boy.... I was about to do the ceremony wrong! My priest mentioned it, but he made it sound like it was just 1 bottle?

Ok.. off to do some research on this...

Well you do one red and one white so technically there are 2 bottles but I haven't seen the bottles displayed on the altar. The two versions I've seen are:

    A) Two glasses/carafes/decanters are placed on the alter, one with white wine (symbolizing the sweetness and joys of life) and one with red wine (symbolizing the fullness of life that includes bitterness, sorrow and tribulation). A larger (or could be same size I guess) glass is placed in the middle where the two will be mixed to form a rosé. Both the bride and groom drink from this cup. I've seen some where they pour the rosé into individual cups but that just seems like too many moving parts to me.

    B) The mother's each carry up one of the glasses of wine while the bigger mixing cup (for lack of a better term) is already at the altar.
