Unity Ceremony Ideas?

Amber , on July 26, 2020 at 1:16 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 16
What have you done for your unity ceremony? We are trying to stay away from the candle idea as the wedding is outdoors & at a barn. Looking for recommendations for different ideas!

We did a lei exchange and a water ceremony. The water ceremony I had never seen before, but our officiant blessed some water and then he poured it into 2 cups for us to drink. We had to intertwine our arms to drink from our own cups, symbolizing our union Smiley smile

A spice ceremony. My fiance and i live to cook. So we came up with our own home blend slice mix that is good on everything. We wanted something to include members of the family. My fiance will stay by adding salt to a jar. Then selected family members will add their assigned spice to the jar to add their blessing. My fiance and I will add salt at the end, seal it and shake it to blend. This is like the blending of our lives together and we will be able to use it in or home after to continue blessing our marriage. On the back, We are including the meaning behind each spice we chose as well as the recipe.

We did a unity puzzle. We too had an outdoor wedding, and we wanted to stay away from the cliché candle & sand ceremony. We had the puzzle custom made on Etsy. It’s now framed in our bedroom.

We are doing a simple hand fasting as part of ours instead of candles or sand or the myriad of other options I have seen and heard about.

We are doing a unity glass ceremony. www.unityinglass.com
Similar to a sand ceremony but with pieces of colored glass. We pour them together. We are doing it with our three kids as well. Then send the mixture back to the company and they create a sculpture of the mixture.

We’re doing this same one. I love it, the symbols and the reading it comes with.

You can do anything you want. As a guest, I have never seen a ceremony outside of the traditional vow exchange though.
Online I have read about making a pb&j together, mixing a cocktail, making a potion (dry ice and colored water), etc.

We did a wine box ceremony. We bought the beautiful custom box from Esty, wrote letters to each other, then sealed the box during the ceremony. Our officiant read a bit about the ceremony and how we will open the box on an anniversary or when we hit a tough spot. I’d never seen it before and wanted something different.

We are doing a glass ceremony. I found a great, affordable option on Etsy.
My fiancé’s cousin did the unity cross, and my brother had a hand fasting. Other than that, I’ve seen the candle and the sand but that’s it.

We haven't decided yet, but I think i want to do "The Cord of Three Strands" also known as "God's Knot". It's becoming popular in Christian ceremonies. It symbolizes the presence of God in the marraige (one cord represents the groom, one represents the bride, and the other is God). If you're not Christian I imagine you can make up your own meaning according to your faith. Or something not related to spiritual beliefs at all like one cord is the groom, one cord is the bride, and the 3rd cord represents their new bond in marriage or two families joining together because of their love.

We are doing ours pretty different. Our venue is a winery and my FH is very shy and doesn't feel very comfortable saying his written vows in front of 100 people. So I purchased a customized wine box on etsy that locks. We are going to put a bottle of wine in it and our written vows and lock it together. On our first anniversary we will open it up and read the vows we wrote to each other while drinking the wine. Then do it all over again each year and keep all the letters in the box. I wanted something that was unique to us and a tradition we can continue to do Smiley smile

We are doing a hand fasting ceremony. The cloths that were using are tartans - one the colors of his mother’s clan in Scotland, and the other one my family’s Irish tartan!
