Unity Ceremony Ideas

Jessica, on April 7, 2019 at 10:59 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 17
So, I've researched this a lot and wanted to see if everyone is doing one of these? And which one are you doing? And lastly, if anyone has any suggestions on a unique unity ceremony?

We are doing a tree planting ceremony, found it on Pinterest. Another option is hand-blown glass but it's pricey.

We are doing the red thread of fate. Legend that each person is tied to another by an invisible red thread - tying together two people that are destined for each other, no matter time, distance, or circumstance. The thread can get stretched, knotted, or tangled but it will never break... so we are taking a long red thread and each tying it around the others’ little finger (as the legend says)

We did a reverse unity candle lighting ceremony where we lit our unity candle and then started the chain of having our guests' candles lit.

It isn't unique or "out of the box" in any way, but we are doing the unity candle during our ceremony. I bought an absolutely beautiful hand made candle at a local Renaissance Faire for our "unity" candle. We are borrowing two antique crystal candlestick holders from my FMIL that belonged to my fiancé's great grandmother for the candlesticks that each mother will light. So, even though the unity candle ceremony is pretty common, we will be incorporating some important details to reflect our personalities and heritage. Perhaps you could incorporate aspects that are personal/sentimental to you and your fiancé into a traditional unity ceremony if nothing else catches your fancy?

I went to a friends wedding yesterday and they did a tree ceremony. I had never heard of it before but I saw a pp mention it. It was so sweet!!! They had a mason jar of dirt from his grandparents home and a jar of dirt from her childhood home. Then mixed it in a planter with a tree and will take it home to plant at their home to grow roots.

We are doing a wine ceremony. Two wines will be poured into a center decanter. And we will share a cup of the mixed wine. This is to symbolize the bitter and the sweet of life and no matter what we are supposed to find the love despite what life will challenge us with. We are super excited.😊Smiley laugh Smiley ring

My fiancé is finishing his PhD so we are thinking about doing a science based unity ceremony. This url has several ideas with descriptions for some:

We’re doing a unity candle that our mothers light and then we light the center. It’s not unique but it’s so meaningful to me.

We’re having a family only wedding & both of our families along with ourselves are very religious so we’re having our first acts of marriage be worship. We’re taking communion along with the rest of the guests & also having a foot washing ceremony, I’m thinking about having my best friend who is a worship leader & my brother sing during that also still not sure!

We are doing a sand ceremony with our 4 children, and doing a knot tying ceremony just the 2 of us.

We are doing a cord of three strands ceremony. I love the symbolism behind this as our faith is very important to us.
