Unity Candle

Nequela, on September 26, 2011 at 1:43 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8

Just a question. I'm a big fan of the show bridezilla's and they have a couple on here who want's her little cousins to light the unity candle for her. Well I thought the couple light that but her wedding planner said that since the father give the daughter away that the mothers light the candle. So who really light the Unity Candle?

The way I've always seen it done, the mothers light the side candles, and then the bride and groom use those to light the center pillar (unity) candle together.

By the mother's lighting the candles and then the B & G lighting them it is a symbol of the 2 families uniting. I am going to have one of my daughters and one of his daughters (if she comes) light them (both our mothers and our fathers have passed away), but if his daughter does not come, then 2 of my daughters will light them.

I went to a wedding a couple weeks ago and the two mothers lit the side candles and the bride and groom lit the middle one.

Nequela that bride was out of control and did not want to learn, she just wanted them to light it and be seated so they did not run around (sad).

As most of the lasdies have said mothers are correct but an aunt, sister, daugther can also light it for you.

I have seen in a wedding..........That they divide the candle lighting into two parts............Lighting of the family candles and lighting of the utility or wedding candles..............Just because couple wants their 5 years daughter to light up the candle..........

What i understand is that usually utility candles mother lights up the utility candles but as it is a symbol of joining together of two families someone very close to bride or groom can light up the utility candle..............
