Unity Candle Lighting at Reception - Anyone?

Private User, on May 1, 2015 at 12:36 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

Hello-

With the ceremony being outside, we have been considering doing the unity candle ceremony at the reception instead of as a part of the ceremony. Has anyone done this? When was it incorporated?

Our faith plays a huge role in our lives. We already have the candles, we are just trying to see how it could fit in the reception if we did it there instead of the ceremony.

For me I think it's more intimate to have this done at the ceremony than the reception. Wish I could be more helpful!

Our ceremony is outside too and the candles I was looking at where in glass so I assumed we would be ok that the glass would be protecting the candle from going out. I assume that is your worry also. We have since switched to the sand ceremony, but can you buy a candle holder if yours did not come with one that would keep the candle from going out?

One of my couples insisted (against my advice) on having a unity candle at their outdoor wedding in a large open area at a golf club. Of course, the wind kept blowing out the candles. After the couple fussing with the candles way too long, I finally got them to agree to continue with the ceremony. After, I gave the ceremony booklet (with the reading for the candles) to the Best Man so they could light the candles inside at the reception during the speeches (I left, so I don't know how it worked out).
