Unity and vows to step children

I've been thinking of having my six year old daughter and my FH say a little vow to each other and exchange some sort of something. She is also giving me away.

LibbyP, make sure your daughter knows that you're not going anywhere when she gives you away. A 6-year old boy was in tears because he thought he was really 'giving away' his mom.

I'm in favor of the new parent making vows to the stepchild, but not putting the child on the spot to say anything in response. If s/he gets shy and won't talk, it will be awkward.
