Unique unity ceremony ideas?

Laura, on March 24, 2017 at 10:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 31

Just wondering if you all know of anything besides the typical unity candle or sand ceremonies? I wanna do something a little different but I can't think of any good ideas!

I saw one where the couple had a little tree in a pot, and took a pot of dirt from each of their parents' houses and poured it over the tree, planting it. They had a nice reading about it. Can't remember details but it was really sweet

ETA: I see there are tons of ideas on Pinterest for this lol

I'm doing a unity heart ceremony. We wanted something different too and found this as a great way to display our union.

I did see the tree planting one on there! I'm having an indoor ceremony (in February) though so if I did do that I'd probably have to go with some sort of evergreen lol

I have heard of couples painting a canvas. The bride has one color, groom has another and they paint a heart together.

We are doing the tree planting! We thought it was an awesome idea to have something we can watch grow as the years go on!

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but the wedding itself is a unity ceremony. You don't need to do anything extra during the ceremony, it just takes up time and makes all the guests sit there even longer.

I've been thinking of 'pulverizing' an extra brick that I have from our family's old farmhouse. FH is originally from Maine, so I could ask his cousin to ship over some small river pebbles or small seashells, etc (of course I'd pay for shipping).

Instead of sand, we could use these two materials instead.

We are doing the cord ceremony. We will braid it together then hang it on our wall in our home!

We're doing an anniversary box. We're each writing each other letters to open on our first anniversary and putting it in a box with a bottle of wine.

We are doing a wine ceremony where there's a red wine and a wine wine and they pour them together and drink.

We were joking with the reverend and said we should do a chocolate and vanilla milkshake. But......

Doesn't sound like a bad idea. Lol

I am an artist for my living so we are doing a paint ceremony where we drip paint down a canvas; each having our own color. Later I'll add a monogram and hang on our wall.

@LibbyLane exactly!!! I thought you had to do a unity candle until my priest said that they drive him crazy! The exchanging of rings IS the unity ceremony!! And I said yes!!!! I think any thing else is kind of strange. Just me

We're doing a reverse unity candle where after we light our candle we'll start the process of having our guests' candles lit. It's the day before Christmas Eve so I thought this would be a beautiful ending to the ceremony. We'll have a small choir sing O Holy Night during this part.

I like the ideas of doing something involving the mother of the bride & groom for the unity ceremony. Like obviously the wedding is the TRUE unity ceremony, but I've seen a couple ideas that get the parents involved and I really love it, just undecided if I should do it or not lol
