unique ceremony ideas

Melissa, on July 31, 2012 at 3:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

I am looking for a unique ceremony idea-I have heard of unity candles, sand, and 3 strands. Any other ideas? We have adult children who are in our wedding party. Just looking for somehing unique to make our day extra special.

I have probably posted this in lots of different forums on here and people might be tired of hearing it, but I am in love with the wine box wedding ceremony. We are going to try to include it in the church ceremony, but if they won't allow it, we will include it in the reception. Just google wine box wedding ceremony and you will see all the info on it. People on Etsy even make the wine boxes, and you can get ones that lock with a key instead of nailing it shut. We like the idea behind it.

Call me crazy BUT when I went to a bridal show at my venue they had someone there who has a hawk (which poses as the ringbearer) he's fully trained to bring the rings to the best man- pretty cool. Maybe check into something like that (if you're doing an outdoor wedding) - or is that too unique?

    Some ideas for symbolic ceremonies

Rose Ceremony: A simple unity ceremony where the bride & groom exchange roses. Other variations: the families exchange roses, the bride and groom exchange roses with their families, the bride and groom exchange roses, then present their mothers with the roses

Wine Ceremony: The bride and groom each take a carafe of wine and pour it into a single glass, which they both drink from.

Celtic Oathing Stone. "The couple holds or puts their hands on a stone during their vows to "set them in stone"

hand blessing ceremony: Bride & groom hold each other's hands while a blessing if said

    an interesting thing to do/have

Truce Bell. A bell is rung on the wedding day, the happiest day of the couple's lives and then is placed in a central location in the home. If the couple starts to argue, one of them can ring the truce bell, reminding them both of that happiness & hopefully ending the fight

Ring Warming Ceremony - rings can be passed around the room on a pillow or in a bag. The officiant can explain a little about it right at the begining of the ceremony. http://offbeatbride.com/2009/08/ring-warming-wedding (or search google)

Everyone holds the rings for a few seconds and says a little blessing/prayer for them. Then by the time you do your vows the rings have made their way all the way around the room and all your loved ones have given their blessings.

Cord of Three Strands: The cord of three strands symbolizes the joining of one man, one woman, and God into a marriage relationship.http://www.godsknot.com/CordOfThreeStrands.aspx

Handfasting: Celtic wedding rituals. It involves the tying of hands together to symbolize the coming together and remaing tied together.

gives a nice outline, & some examples of symbolic ceremonies.

My wedding is in about 10 days, and I had an idea for a unity ceremony... I could have sworn that I saw it somewhere, but I can't seem to find anyone who's done it. Maybe a little input would be helpful:

I am considering an oil and vinegar ceremony. Granted, it doesn't mix naturally, but I like that each element is unique, but when you put a little effort in, you get a mixture, and that makes the combination delicious.

    Thoughts?

I found this on Off-Beat bride too: http://offbeatbride.com/2008/06/guest-bouquet. You basically have a select group of special people (or everyone if your wedding is small) hand you a flower as you walk in and by the time you reach the aisle, you have a bouquet that represents your community.

Looking for fun ideas to include two adult sons in our wedding. Or somehow include them in "our family"
