Uninviting guests letting them know

Kay, on August 25, 2020 at 9:03 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 8
We planned a backyard wedding with 63 people on 9/19/20, now our county changed social gatherings to 25 people. I’m taking this really hard. I want to let my friends know, but I literally don’t know how to tell them they are not invited anymore. Has anyone done this? Can you let me know how you put this if you are in this boat? Please help Smiley sad

I'm so sorry you have to cut back on your guest list :-( here is a website I found a while ago that has some templates for wording letters/emails to guests when you have to uninvite them: https://theeverylastdetail.com/coronavirus-wedding-postponement-email-templates-to-send-to-guests/

Have you considered live streaming the event so that the guests that cannot attend in-person can still witness the ceremony?

Is Zooming them in an option? We are not dealing with this, but that would be my thought. Cut it down to your 25 must-haves, and then let the others know that unfortunately, due to new restrictions, you are unable to host them as planned, but would love for them to attend via Zoom. Sorry you’re going through this, it’s such a tough time! People should understand you have no control over the situation.

I have the same reception date. I’m sure they would understand or some people might reach out to you first about the changes.

I recommend you zoom them in and let them know the new county regulations.

This is what I sent out as my “un-invitation” and on the back we mentioned we would be live streaming it. It was really hard to do this but everyone understood.

I’m in the same boat. We have 51 guest coming and 53 we haven’t heard from yet. But we are thinking we may have to decrease our numbers to a total of 75 so I’m hoping people decline so I don’t have to uninvite anyone

My sister recently got a call to be uninvited as a guest from a friend's wedding next month. It's a local law (capacity regulations) so she understood, but the bride didn't want to postpone. Only family was invited. People are being surprisingly understanding.
