Undesirables at Reception

Rebecca, on November 8, 2019 at 10:58 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Hi Everyone!

We were notified today by a family member (a father figure to me, he was watching our present table because he was worried throughout the night) that there were two undesirable people walking around our reception for a long time, looking at everything (our wedding was 10/5).

The family member stated that the pair said they were touring the venue but our venue does not allow that when a wedding is going on, so we know they were there with bad intentions.

We are unsure how long they were there or what they could have done, but we heard they came back more than once before finally being kicked out by banquet staff.

This is making us really nervous and unsure what to do. We had a formal wedding (around 100 per plate) and we hosted numerous events throughout the weekend as well. We ended up not receiving gifts from about 40 guests (out of 133), and at first we thought that was normal.

After hearing this news, our suspicious have changed. We also received a few cards that were already opened. One was my sister, so I asked her about it and she confirmed she 100% sealed it before putting it in our card box.

My husband and I are stuck. We know we cannot reach out to non gifting guests to inquire, but we also want our guests to know that there is a chance we did not receive their gift, or that they should cancel their checks if they haven't been cashed.

Has anyone else faced this? What did you do?

Thank you!

I would reach out to the venue and see if they have security cameras. If other people aren’t supposed to be touring the venue during events, their presence is at least partially on the venue.

I agree with this- polite and to the point. I would also bring this up to your venue as they should've been more aware of uninvited guests hanging around.
