Underage Groomsmen

Kylee, on May 20, 2014 at 12:32 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Hi All, My family is super close so I have my 13 year old sister as my MOH and my FH has my 2 younger brothers (17 and 14) in his party. My question concerns their gifts. My FH was thinking engraved flasks and shot glasses, but what do we do about my brothers? I know its not SO bad for the 17 year old, since he will be almost 18, but I know my parents wouldn't be okay with us giving the 14 year old a flask. I don't want them to feel left out. As for my sister, I'm totally lost. Any advice would be appreciated!

I didn't say that we would be giving him alcohol, because we won't, but being 18 is technically an adult, so he can make his own decisions.

I would give him something other than a flask. Maybe just an engraved glass?

We have two groomsmen under 21 and everyone is getting little coolers that have seats. I could have done flasks with no problems but we decided coolers were better because they would use them more.

I would definitely not do that. Give the older GM the flasks and the younger ones something else. That's just asking for drama.

@R This is why I asked. I didn't say I was absolutely going to give the 18 year old a flask (or a knife for that matter), I just said I can see how it wouldn't be THAT bad.

@R Not sure where OP is based, but in most of Canada, the drinking age is 18.

@Allison -All of my ladies, except my sister, are of age so I was thinking pretty wine glasses, or shot glasses, but I have not ruled anything out. I'll be wearing my great grandmothers pearls, so maybe pearl earring and necklace sets that I found on Etsy.

Uhm...why does everyone have to get matchy matchy gifts? Buy them video games or gift cards. You know, something they might actually use. Don't give kids flasks, shot glasses, or knives. Good lord.

For your sister...get her something she'd actually LIKE to have.

Two of my bridesmaids (my sister and cousin) will be 17 when I get married, but I'm giving them the same gift as my other girls, jewelry and either a personalized button up or a robe. I haven't decided which yet.

And for your brothers, like ChosenAtRandom said, get them something you know they're going to like/use.

I have 3 Bridesmaids who's personalities are all different regardless of age. So I'm giving each one a gift just for them. I want them to feel appreciated as individuals. We're doing the same for the Groomsmen.

For your sister maybe a necklace or bracelet ? And the Boys sneakers (chucks) with their names on them?
