Uber From the Reception?

C.C., on May 24, 2017 at 12:56 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

FH and I were looking into having a car service pick us up from the reception and take us to the hotel we are staying at about 10 minutes away after the reception. We couldn't believe the price! All the car service's is our area come from downtown so they charge us for the long drive to our venue as well.

What are your thoughts on taking Uber from the venue on your wedding night? It seems we could save over $100 by taking a nice Uber Black, we can schedule it in advance and everything.

We take Uber all the time, but is it tacky to do that on our wedding night? Give me your thoughts!

No one will know it's Uber--it's still usually a nice Lincoln Town Car or Escalade. Not seeing how that could be tacky.

We did. No one noticed, or cared.

That's what we are planning on doing for photos. Seriously why spend the money on car hire if you don't need to. Love uber!

I was wondering this too. Our venue is literally not even 2 mins away from the hotel.

I would do it to save the 100 but who will be making sure u r outside in time? I think it would be a buzz kill at the end of the night if one of you had to keep checking your phone for uber updates.

Also how are the rest of your guests getting to the hotel? Have you coordinated a shuttle service for them so there is no drunk driving ??

    No one will care.

Your guests are adults. They too can book their own transportation.

No one will notice or care, not all guests will stay the duration anyhow. For weddings inside Nashville, I take uber to avoid parking hassles, it's liberating.

It's certainly cheaper and I would highly recommend it.

Only caveat is they could technically decline you. My groomsman was UBERING to our hotel to get ready and could not get one at all and the guy ended up cancelling on her. She had to take a cab instead.

It's super super rare but if I were you, it's a risk I am willing to take.

I'm glad everyone is on board with the Uber, haha. We're leaning towards doing that!

@alicia we would probably give the phone to one of the bridesmaids to coordinate for us. And we are not doing a shuttle service. Most of our guests are local. They can carpool with a DD responsibly, or take an Uber. I trust them, they're adults. I hadn't considered doing a shuttle, is that something I am supposed to provide?

Shuttle service is nice but not necessary. Drunk driving should not be the bride and groom's worry. Just trust you guests are responsible adults.

I totally would have used Uber to get us home from the bar on the wedding night if it had been an option! We were in an area without Uber Smiley sad

@EllenD yes you can Schedule it on the app! You just click the little "schedule" button and say when you want to have it pick you up.

This sounds like a great way to save some $$$! I don't think it's tacky at all and there's no real way to tell the difference between a car service and an Uber

I don't see a problem with that. I don't think anyone will notice.

Maybe it's because I'm not a "car person" but I have never cared about hiring a fancy car or limo for a wedding. Seems like one of the easiest places to cut your budget where no one will notice to me. Uber/taxi/carpool/drive yourself and save money!!

A Bride- totally agree! I'm glad everyone seems to be on the same page as us! We don't wanna drive since we will probably be drinking to some extent, but totally an easy place to save money (:

This is definitely my plan for our trio to the hotel too!! It's about 10 minutes away and über black sounded like a quick, cheap, but nice way to get from a to b.

Our hotel provides 1 hour of constant shuttle service before and after our event if we book 15 rooms. It's not necessary but it's definitely a big part of why we chose that hotel with lots of others to choose from
