Two Rescheduled Weddings on the Same Day

Dee, on August 28, 2020 at 7:17 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Two weddings I was asked to be in were postponed due to Covid and have now been rescheduled for the same exact day. Any advice for how I decide which one to be in?

That's tough. Are you closer to one couple than the other? I'm sure the other couple would understand since they aren't the only ones postponing.

One is extended family (cousin) and one is a close friend.

    -Closeness to couple
    -Cost ie travel/time
-Who postponed first-Size of bridal partyIt's definitely a tough decision, but don't beat yourself up over it. I'm sure your friends will understand.

Ohhh that's a tough one. Did neither of them consult their bridal party and VIPs when changing their date? I would probably choose the close friend, but that's just me. Unless you're super close with your cousin...but up to you and I'm sure they'll understand

Who told you first about their postponement date? That’s who I’d go with. First come first served.

If you're much closer to one than the other, choose that one. If they're about equal, but one would be understanding if you dropped out and the other would not, choose the less* understanding one, and do something really nice for the other person. If it's a tie, the winner is the one who told you about the new date first.

*Normally I would say to pick the one who would understand if you dropped out, but in this case, it's neither of their faults and if you want to maintain both relationships, it'll be easier to do that if you don't really piss one of them off. If neither (or both) of them will understand, choose the one who you have more close people (friends or relatives that you hang with a lot) in common with.

Right. It’s a concrete reason and not based on feelings or any other factors, since both weddings had already been committed to.

This is exactly how I would decide too. Unless it was an acquaintance's wedding vs my best friend's wedding, then I'd go to the wedding of the person I am closest to. But if it's two people who I am equally close to, I'd go to the one that told me about their new date first.

I’d go with who asked you first. That sucks though.
