Tux's: do the ushers need to wear tuxes?

Mrs. Jayjohn, on February 3, 2010 at 12:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

We're having a fairly formal wedding in August and our colors are purple and aqua. From what I've gathered: my FH will wear a vest that goes with my dress, the groomsmen will wear vests that match the bridesmaids dresses (lapis from David's) and the fathers will have black vests. So this leaves me with the ushers (my brother and a close family friend)Do they need tuxes too? What color should their vests be? (I was thinking aqua to set them apart) Ideas?

Nope, since they are not part of the wedding party they can just wear whatever (usually a suit)

You may want to ask them since if they already own a suit so they don't have to buy one just for the wedding. Since they aren't usually in pictures and not standing up at the front what they wear doesn't matter much (provided it's not something completely ridiculous, of course, lol)

Think about what would help your ushers. If they don't have suits, renting a tux would be cheaper then buying a suit. And a tuxedo rental usually covers the entire outfit, even cufflinks and socks. Tuxedo rentals are cheaper than going out to buy the entire outfit, and if they come from the same place the wedding party is getting theirs, you know they'll coordinate and fit like the rest of the party. And being a complete package, there's not gonna be any goof-ups, like showing up in his gym socks. Daunting as tuxedos may seem to gents at first, they're actually the easiest route. For colors, that aqua you mentioned, or a silver would be great with what you've picked!

My brother has his class A's (he's active military) but I thought I'd give him the option of what he'd like to wear. I'll check with them to see what they think.

My ushers are going to be a zombie & a mummy, so tuxes are kind've out of the question for me...so I would say no.

Our ushers will be wearing tuxes, but I don't think it's necessary. They will actually even match the GM. We decided on a small bridal party and then FH got asked to be BM in his friend's wedding a couple months later. The friend was "next on the list" (can't think of a better way to put it) for GM so FH really wants him to feel a part of the wedding by matching. One of our other ushers is my brother and my mom already told him he'd be wearing a tux lol. And then my sister's b/f. My sister is my MOH so I think she'll enjoy her and her b/f matching for the night Smiley smile Either way, do whatever works for you!

We too have a small bridal party, no MOH or BM. Since we're having an adult reception we decided to make our two kids and niece/nephews the bridal party as we do them there and it eliminates any hurt feelings from other guests who can't bring their kids. So, our Ushers will have tuxes to match the Ring Bearer and Jr. Groomsman.
