Tuxedo Rental....way too much

So, FH and I went to a tux fitting this past weekend. I never thought the prices for rental was so expensive, even with a $50 off coupon, it came up to $180 pp just for the rental. Anyone else has another experience for the rental? we went to Men's warehouse, I don't know if there is another company...

For rentals that sounds about right to me...

@OP, from your profile it looks like you're in the NYC/Philadelphia metroplex. Stuff here is expensive, and $180 is a reasonable price for a tux rental. You aren't going to get much cheaper than MW; Joseph A. Bank, for one, is going to be pricier.

Plus, doesn't MW do the "rent four tuxes and the fifth is free" thing?

    You'll find a great deal--"I guarantee it!"

That's a very standard price. Ours are $217

Does that include everything like the shoes, tie, shirt, etc? If so, that's not bad for MW's. Our best man is in another wedding a month after ours and is spending $260 to rent his suit for that wedding at MW's.

We went to a tiny local place here in MA and for a suit jacket, pants, shirt, and vest it will be $123 for my guys to rent. I purchased all their ties, suspenders, and socks for $5 each and their shoes for $30 each. I made their pocket squares myself.

@Danielle, Yes, we are actually in NJ, I just want to make sure the price was right, this is our first time going to a tux rental, We checked online and they have the $99 rental, but that sale wasn't available at the store (of course).

Kelsey; Yes we had an option to do the free rental for the groom, but we decided to do the $50 off instead so all the GM have a discount

    It's ridiculous but sadly normal

That's FH decided to go with suits because they could pay the same amount and at least then they got to keep them

@MariaPaz - what time of day is your wedding? Tuxedos are evening wear and are not normally worn before 6 pm. Could the men wear suits they already own to save money?

@muriel, actually we decided to do more like a suit than tux, because our ceremony is at 1pm, and an evening reception. But tux and suits are only $10 difference.

Like Augustlawbride says, it is ridiculous but normal

We used Xedo online since you can rent per piece and the groom gets his free. It came out to $170 PP, but we divided the free groom's rental between everyone so it came out to $142. The guys just needed to get their own white shirt and black shoes doing it that way, but at least those can be kept and worn again.

Yup they are expensive. We went with tuxedo junction and it's still about $150 we're paying for the pocket squares and shoes are optional for another $20. It's insane especially cause you're renting!

@MariaPaz- the Black Tux has suit rentals starting at $95.

Another option would be finding a good buy on a suit on sale. At least then, they would keep the suit. Macy's, JCPenney, and Burlington Coat Factory are good sources.

Go Local. Many groom's tuxes are free if all The GM get theirs together.

Ours are $190 after coupon, including shoes. $170 if they don't need the shoes. We're going through a local place. Most of our guys are out of state but just have to get professional measurements and send to the shop.

@Mariapaz - Idk if someone has brought this up yet or how it applies, but we were at a mens warehouse in SNJ yesterday, and they told us if we wanted to use the 400$ off it could only be applied starting 14 days prior to our event and up to 30 days after, IF we rented 5-6 suits/tuxes.

We aren't super thrilled with the stipulation as it leaves very little time for tailoring for FH, though I am sure it could be done. Make sure you have all the facts regarding what is required to use that amount off. I dont know if it varies from MW to MW but that is the information we got.

For this exact reason and the fact they wouldn't let us try on anything, we ended up registering at Macy's and got a coupon for purchasing a tux there for less than what FH would have to pay for renting one at MW.

@munchkins... yes we got the same information, but we are to buy some t-shirts and maybe ties for all GM as a thank you for spending so much in a suit rental! We really wanted to by the engraved items they have, but that's not included in the coupon I think!! It's a shame because that would save us some more!

I'm from NYC and I find your price pretty reasonable. My FH is just buying his own suite. For a bit more, he'll have a great suit that he could always use for the future. He'll probably spend about $400 for it.
